You hit the nail right on the head for me Pat, that is the exact music I listen to. Did you know that Alice Cooper has a radio show? I listen to it every night while Im at work.

			-
				Really?
Hmmm gonna have to look into that, i want to buy like XM or sirus cause to me the radio stations arent what they were say 10-15 years ago but what i get tired of is the repeating of the songs, i can work a 10 hour day i can hear the same song like 3 times in 10 hours, it gets old so i bring in a stack of C/Ds and can change what i wanna listen to w/o any commericials .But i like some of alice coopers songs like building a house of fire, poison, loves a loaded gun.
thanks

man i listen to a little bit of everything.  i can go from classic country (60's-80's) to classic rock to alternative to easy listening to modern country to SOME rap (not much) to modern rock...lol, i listen to a VERY wide range of music but i normally go between classic country and classic rock...

			-
We used to get Alice Cooper's show on a local station, I used to listen to it while mowing my lawn after work.
I like 70's and 80's rock, skip the 90's, metal, southern rock, blues, reggae, and most everything but crying cowboys...(no offense meant to the country fans, just not my thing).

			-
rockabilly, psychobilly and surf, baby. from link wray and dick dale to the koffin kats and the cramps. i also love metal (except for nu-metal), big band/swing, and old skool hip hop.

			-
In the garage, smooth jazz.  While driving either talk radio or nothing at all.  I like to sound of my 454, that is music to my ears.

			-
Anything that catches my ear or spikes my curiosity, from AC/DC to The Cure, from Fryderyk Chopin to Otis Redding, from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Barrington Levy, from...well, you get the picture...except most rap and modern country, I like alot of classic country and 80's hip hop, though.

			-
Anything but classical (elevator music) and Tejano ( don't understand it) or any music with an accordian9worse than nails on a chalk board) Mostly Christian rock, love Pillar, Casting Crowns, Under Oath,Steven Curtis Chaplin, Soulstrum, etc.

Good choices as well.  I like the old southern gospel, especially the Cathedrals

Go for it (the satellite radio).  My wife bought it for me 2 years ago for fathers day and I haven't listened to regular radio since.  I drive 3 hours a day, sometimes more, and I couldn't live without it.  No commercials, tons of tunes in all kinds of genres, and you can drive for hours listening to the same station.  Anything over 50 miles has you switching FM stations due to static.  Lots of talk shows, sporting (ESPN and every NFL game, both home and away broadcasts) news, and weather/traffic every 4 minutes for most major metro areas can be had on Sirius.  XM has different content, so research each to find what suits you better.  I was going to go with XM just to spite Howard Stern (can't stand him), but the Sirius channel lineup fit my tastes better overall.
People always give me the "I'm not gonna pay for something that I can get for free" line, but you pay for cable, and you pay a lot.  And it is so not like regular radio.  Not having to listen to some DJ break in every 20 minutes to tell me "my dog/cat/bird/iguana has had much better stools and a shiny coat while eating brand X food" is worth every cent of the $11/month.
The only downside is there are commercials on the non-music stations like ESPN, Playboy, Blue Collar Comedy, Roaddog Trucking, etc.  But they're still only 2-4 times per hour, and you have 100 other things to listen to for the 4 minutes the program is interrupted.
Other bonuses:
If you put down a little extra cash on a decent unit, you get some fancy features like 45 minutes of playback and alerts when your favorite song or artist is playing on any channel, kind of like Tivo.
You can listen to most of the Sirius content online too.  All of the music and most of the talk channels are available.  You get a log-in and password when you sign up.  I don't know if XM has this as well, but I would assume it does.
As a money saver, I put a buddy of mine on my account as a second receiver for $6.99 more per month, and we split the total cost 50/50, so I really only pay $9/month for it when I pay for the year up front.
I'm not affiliated in Sirius, don't own stock, etc.  I just love the product.  A lot.

It caught my attention when I read about Clutch just now....
They have a good southern rock feeling but more modern.

So I'm thinking Led Zepplin, Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros, Skynyrd, but modern...hmmm.
I went to Walmart.com clicked on music, clicked on download mp3 (songs are only $0.94) and previewed a few of their songs....oh my goodness, I had to reach for the tylenol--my head.
If that is modern southern rock, then in their day, Metallica and Megadeath must have been their modern folk music artists.  Oh, my head still hurts.

			-
maybe their southern rock is more about singing about cars and such then about their sound.
check out Spacegrass or the house that peterbilt

			-
I'll try those, thanks...I'm always game for ideas.

			-
Anything with a good beat. I "prefer" good old Southern Rock, but like it mixed with Classic Rock, Pop, hip-hop, mainstream rap,.....like I said, anything that has a good beat.

It would take a really long time to list all of the music I like, I guess a good way to put it is ... I like all kinds of music from Cradles of Filth to Carl Perkins, and that includes bluegrass.

			-
ah mostly i listen to country.  But when workin on my truck i like to listen to classic rock!

			-
I regularly listen to bands like Pantera, Megadeth, Motorhead, Metallica, etc. but I also listen to country, bluegrass, anything with an instrument really.

			-
I listen to classic rock mostly from the 70s. I like Marshall Tucker Band, Mountain, Free, Foghat, The James Gang, basically anything I can chill out to ;) ;D

			-
I listen to Country like Steve Wariner, Mark Chesnut, Chris Cagle, Lonestar, Trent Tomlinson and Alabama.  Don't care for Shania, Faith, or Dixie Chicks.  Like Christian music including Steven Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns, Planning Yesterday, Mercy Me and Newsboys.  Will listen to rock on occasion.  My favorite song is "Almost Goodbye" by Mark Chesnut for sentimental reasons.  Love to listen to that in my yeller truck.  Can't really stand much rap, too hard to understand.  Love Christmas music.  I could listen to some of my Christmas cds all year long. I usually listen to K-Love when driving.

			-
Most anything, Country, AC/DC, Metalica, and some Blues like Kenny Wayne Sheperd, Delbert McClinton, Bonnie Rait, Susan Teudeshi, Tommy Castro, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Yeah that sounds good.

			-
Guys, get a MP3 player. They hold from a few hundred to a few thousand songs of what ever you listen to. It's the best investment I ever made in my shop. Hook it to a set of self powered speakers like you would use on your computer ( plug and play ) and you are good for hours with no repeats and no greasy fingerprints on your CD collection!

It really doesn't get much better than a dose of JOE SATRIANI. A mainly instrumental guitarist.  I've been a big fan since 1986! I saw him in 2007 at House Of Blues in Chicago. It was incredible. Check him out!

sorry, I grew up in the 80's.

Never heard of him?? My God man! I'm 40 too!  He sounds nothing like early Van Halen. He's got a sound all his own. Check out more of his music. He has at least 15 records. It's all in the instruments. Words just get in the way.

He sounds nothing like early Van Halen.
I have listened to two of his videos on youtube, and YES, he reminds me exactly of Van Halen's stuff when David Lee Roth played with them.  It is identical to the lead guitarists in that band.  Van Halen wouldn't have popped into my mind if it didn't.
listen to this...

Van Halen's Eruption
I agree, most times the words do destroy a great melody.

Southern rock country and then the more modern rock. Kind of an 80's metal fan my self but Skynyrd is #1 in my book
Rest in peace Billy Powell

			-
Stepsideguy, those vids are pretty cool.  I like the Hammerfall vid, sounds good. Typical heavy 80's stuff, but, that's what i grew up with....Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Poison, Guns and Roses, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Ratt, Metallica---love those high energy songs
Of course, nothing beats the southern rock Led Zep, Skynryd, Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros, Pure Prairie League, .38 spcl, Molly Hatchet.
I'll add Stevie Ray Vaughan,  Steve Miller Band, Eagles,   Steely Dan, Peter Frampton, Ozzy, and as eclectic as my taste is, I also like ole Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson and could listen to them all day long. Throw in Cash,
If you like a good guitar, there is always Eric Clapton, but throw in Mark Knopfler--good mellow stuff, or anything David Gilmour of Pink Floyd...yeah, Floyd, saw them many times in concert in college.
Also love Kansas, Boston, Chicago, (there's a pattern here) Brooks and Dunn, Gordon Lightfoot, Dwight Yoakam, David Bowie, CCR (the original and CCR the Cross Canadian Ragweed), Chesney, Clint Black, Toby Keith, Bon Jovi--slippery when wet--AWESOME!,
Anything John Williams does (Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones, Raiders of Lost Ark,  Superman,  ET, Chariots of Fire, Close Encounters,)  He is the Mozart and Beethoven of today mixed in to one. He was at the Inauguration--which is the real reason I bothered to go...to listen to him and his creation, along with YoYo Ma.
Add some Gershwin and Vivaldi--wow, I gotta get my mp3 player fired up now.  It's like talking about food and gettin hungry.
Throw in some good old bluegrass--Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Doyle Lawson, Del McCoury, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Cadillac Sky, Nickel Creek---man, I'll be dancin all night long!
Anyway, that's what I like.  Oh, and I am a Parrothead thanks to Jimmy Buffett

			-
I like Hank III also, I think he is better than his daddy(Hank Jr.) but he may be a little too raw for some of yall.

			-
OK, you guys are all nuts! LOL! Joe Satriani sounds NOTHING like early VH! BUT! everyone has their opinion.

			-
Way to many to list, probably everything except rap since 1995.  Mostly listen to rock- new classic and oldies.  I do like david allen coe though ;D and ICP ;D

			-
Is this thread still going? Who's Lt.  Del anyway, and these other members? Are they still around? Oh well, i grew up in the 70's and mostly 80's, yup..big hair and spandex was cool, i guess. I listened to all the typical rock and/or roll. I was even on the pot, lol. So now get ready to roll your eyes and say "oh, he's one of those".  I now listen to classical, mostly Bach, and gospel hymns,  not the contemporary stuff, the real hymns, from the old days like during the civil war era and early 1900's.

			-
Lt used to get on here a lot. but then he got promoted at his job to range instructor for his PD.

			-
				Quite the thread revival.
I listen to two rock and country
rock/metal/death metal/classic metal whatever you wanna call it i probably listen to some of it. Anything from Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, August Burns Red... to Zeppelin and ZZ Top. I love a wide range of bands
Classic country/modern country/some of the more folkish country, bluegrass and pretty much anything in between. Hank III, Garth, Steeldrivers, Jason Aldean, Johnny Horton, Cash, Joe Diffy, CDB. Ill listen to just about anything along those lines. but I hate alot of modern country that doesnt sound like country and doesnt even sound like a band. just sounds like pop music with a dash of banjo with a drum machine.

			-
The old country is nice, i dont mind it. Like johnny cash, the real stuff. Todays country is all rocky.

			-

The old country is nice, i dont mind it. Like johnny cash, the real stuff. Todays country is all rocky.
thats why I like some of it. I know its not traditional but it does it for me and to each his own ya know

			-
i like the music from the 60s-2000s, rap isnt my forte but i do jam out to some of the old school hip hop as long as i can understand the words. this new country is the new hip hop dont like most of it

			-
Back in "my day" if it wasnt heavy metal it was the mellow 60's stuff.  Like bread, cream, apple, (lot of bands named after food), ccr, canned heat, etc...

			-
Country all day every day. Nothing against the new stuff, but basically anything 2005 or so and older. After that it just gets to not country sounding. I really love the 70s, 80s and 90s country. George, Garth, B & D, AJ. The exception to this is tho, there are a small handful of new artists currently, not many but a few, who's music sounds like the old stuff and if you didn't know the front from the back of screwdriver you wouldn't be able to tell the difference and a good example is this Chris Stapleton, sounds old, makes great music and looks like he just crawled out of cabin in 1974, I really like his stuff, very old school. But I also like Pride, Cash, Willy, Alabama, Black, there's just to many to list between 1970 and 1990. It's the only music that has any real soul or genuineness to it. Not bad for a 23 yr old huh?!

			-
I listen to 60% rap, 30% metal/hard rock, 10% classic rock. Cant stand country. Utterly HATE the sound of male country singers from about 1980 on. Can literally feel my blood boil when I have to listen to it. Something about a certain twangy tone in their voice makes me want to break whatever is making that godawful racket.
I usually listen to Eminem, Tech N9ne, 50 Cent, Akon, a little Yelawolf, Lil Jon, Godsmack, Disturbed, Nonpoint, Amon Amarth, Volbeat, Soil, Drowning Pool, Stone Sour, Flyleaf, pre- Black Album Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton, ZZ Top, Rush, Joan Jett, etc...Pretty much, I can be pretty satisfied with any classic rock station, Any metal/hard rock station, or my own collection of Rap.
Unfortunately I live in the heart of country territory, and the majority of the fans around here think if you dont like the sound of country, they just need to play it louder and try to tell you why its so great. Then get mad when you play something they don't like the sound of.

			-

Not bad for a 23 yr old huh?!
not bad at all! im 26 and most people around our age has never heard of half the old country artists we listen to

				Cool thread revival.
There isn't much I don't listen to regularly. If there is one thing I hate it is repetition. Give me a variety.
I have the whole gamut on my phone. Big band/swing, 80s rock, country, classical, I have one playlist that is strictly patriotic selections.
I grew up on the 80s. Excellent music. Pop/rock, country, early rap. It was all top notch. Still listen to most of it today. However, to my reward, I have expanded my tastes to include more decades. 70s. Most of that was easy listening love ballads like Little River Band. Southern rock like Skynyrd. Great stuff. The 60s. You have the usual rock sound, but then there was the surfers, Motown, and don't forget the political counter culture protest music. Love it or hate it, the 60s would not be complete without the protest music. Yep, I listen to it all. The 50s. Ah, well, way too much to list. The 40s is my default. The sound, the swing, the Patriotism. The 40s had a message in the STARKEST of contrast to the 60s protest music. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, the list could go on and on.
Give this song a listen:
https://youtu.be/fhyhP_5VfKM
And the gold standard:
https://youtu.be/_CI-0E_jses
Classical, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Strauss. Pure artistry.
Country. Pretty much all of it, except this Nashville hip hop that seems to dominate the current airtime. And Tim McGraw. Can't stand him or his girlfriend Kenny Chesney.
My wife listens to the modern gospel, which when mixed with a 4/4ths time scale is pretty stimulating. Way back in the day my family was good personal acquaintances with the Blackwood Brothers quartet. I'll still indulge in some of their music from time to time.
There is so much more I could list but let me add by saying everyone should explore new horizons. To make my case I'll bet anyone on this forum that they like opera and don't even know it. Take a listen to the following piece and then tell me with a straight face that this isn't exquisite music: http://youtu.be/9BZ16rfWUaM
As far as what I won't listen to, death metal. Can only do very little of that and like lemon juice on a cold sore, a dab'll do ya. Same with hip hop. Its like a cold toilet seat, I'll do it but I have to ease into it. If that is what others like that's cool with me, just not my type.
And finally, I knew I raised my kids right when I asked them this question: I noticed you guys listen to a lot of 80s music. What do you guys think of .38 Special? My 20 year old replied with "Duh dad it's Skynyrd". It was at that point when I knew I was the perfect parent.

Wow engineer! You could write a small book on music variety. I agree with a lot of what you stated. Those two black and white clips you posted were awesome! The last one tricked me, it got a little heavy for me part way through. I dont listen to anything with drums or a beat to it, dont smirk, thats just my style. I love music from that 30's and 40's era, relaxes the body and mind. There were teenagers and 20 and 30 year olds back then too, rock hadnt been invented yet, not till chuck berry. Anyway thats the music they had. I agree with werewolf too, somethin awful about todays country with that fake twang all the men are trying to do. And they all wear cowboy boots, faded jeans and a black stupid cowboy hat. And they drink heavy and use a lot of profanity and vulgarity, especially kenny chesney. And whos that sleezy chick that does mon night football, she needs to put some clothes on! She sings Jesus songs and dresses like a harlot. Oh well, no offense to the country lovers.
