Hello,
I purchased a '79 c10 silverado 2 wheel drive truck a few weeks ago.My steering column is worn out and needs a lot of work.So I decided to just get a complete column and install.I have a non tilt, auto on column,no cruise and dimmer on floor.I would like a complete ready to bolt in and plug, preferable with a ignition switch that has key.I searched ebay and its hard to find one to fit my year.My question is:there seem to be a lot more columns to be had that are complete that fit '82-'84,etc.Will other years work?I just do not want to make alot of modifications.I need one ready to go in and drive.
thanks for any help.I all ready have my old one out.

If you don't mind spending some money, I bought a completely rebuilt unit from http://www.columnsgalore.com (http://www.columnsgalore.com) for $338. That covers them shipping out the new one and returning your old core to them. That's brand new bearings, turn sig switch, ignition switch, etc...

The 79 columnsn will interchange up to 1983 as 1984 they changed to wipers on column. You could always locate a tilt column from a 85 or so and change out the wiper switch with the switch from your column. I'm not sure of the year maybe 77 or 78, the shaft was changed at the end of the column so make sure it will work with your truck prior to purchase. It takes a little work, but almost everything on these trucks will interchange.
