Title: Oil Pressure Issue
Post by: Unofficial on May 12, 2008, 09:19:04 am
I noticed that my oil pressure has been low lately. I think it started after I put my headers and dual exhaust on. I did take out the oil dipstick tube when I put in the headers, and I haven't been able to get it in right. I had to cut it, and it still isn't in right. I might be loosing oil out that hole, because my oil was low when I checked it. My oil pressure before was around 30, now it's 15. After driving for a while, it will get back up to 30. Is this anything to worry about?

The change should have nothing to do with your dip stick, unless, as you say, it is leaking. But even with a leak, pressure would not change unless your getting air in the pump. I'd say you need know if the oil level is low and fix the leak.

Pressure should vary with engine rpm and temperature, not time. As a rule-of-thumb you should have minimum 10psi for every 1000rpm. So, 15psi and idle is acceptable.

Replace your dipstick and tube and change the oil & filter.

The oil is only 4 months and a couple hundred miles old.

Nevermind, I guess it's nothing to worry about. Thanks.

Don't stick you head in the sand, friend. Keep looking and see what the problem is. If your leaking enough oil to effect the pressure, then you got a problem.

When you fill it does the pressure return to what it was?

Actually, yes. I filled it and it went back up to 30psi.
