Title: Wooden Dash?
Post by: unbludictable on May 22, 2008, 03:05:32 pm
Have any of you seen a wooden dash, that was cut to fit over the original dash!

I think that would be cool! Maybe alot of work or even impossible! Just a thought or a dream!

I have seen that was actually wood venier -- some of the coach builders would put on the dash bezel. looked cheesy to me.

If done right, it can look even better than the original dash I think! I love the wood feel and look. I guess it's just me. I work with wood better than metal!!

You so could do it, A good router bit(so no hard edges) and angle finder and a dash to work off of , you could make , drill the holes that u need, you might would have to give it a few tries, use pin nails/carpenters glue to hold it together and stain. I use to do custom trim, and porches and stuff like that so it could so be done. The Dash bezel would probably be a littler more complicated as far as the holes being right, but it'd really be easier withy some custom gauges, but still def. possible also.

Sounds to me like you need to find a good size oak tree, a chian saw, and a bunch of ingenuity. I totally dig the idea though. I'd burn it with a little propane torch to bring out the grain, sand it a little, and clear coat it till its smooth.
