Title: Hood Hinges
Post by: static22 on May 29, 2008, 11:37:18 pm
Can anyone tell me where to get a good set of hood hinges for a 77. I've tried a few different sources but have had no luck. Thanks for the help.

I think I should clarify. I've found some but the have not fit well at all. I have two sets that both fit differently. I have adjusted them as much as possible.

The old ones are "sprung" as they say. One set won't allow me to close the hood all the way. The other set is better but still won't pull the back of the hood down. It feels as if they are binding as well. I've got a set of hinges from an 80 something Buick where the hood opened forward and am thinking about trying to make them work. I've seen it done but can't remember where I saw it or how it was done.

well the set from the buick i would not try but the 80s hinges you might need new springs or just get a brand new set but try this site it helped me but like i said you might just a new set

The Buick hinges I saw on a mid 80's truck. He had modified them to allow his hood to open and tilt forward. It looked pretty cool and fairly simple. As for the new hinges I have tried two new sets with no luck on the fitment. I'm just looking for a company that sells a GOOD set.

Thanks I'll check into them. Last time I saw those (year or more ago) I was told they wouldn't work on my 77 but they didn't say "universal" either. I'm not opposed to using a stock hinge but I've been dissappointed with the quality of the hinges Ive purchased.

Two different local aftermarket parts suppliers. I'm pretty sure they are not made in this country.

Classic parts of america.  I just bought the left hinge for my 78 and It fit perfect.  The hood closes properly and is a lot easier.  I haven't been unhappy with anything I've gotten from them, from hinges to my grille to weatherstripping to my single key doorlock ignition  cylinder set.  Can't loose with them (so far...  ;D)

Thanks, I'll try them. As for the tilt hood, if I decide to try it I'll definitely post some pics and let you know how it goes.
