Title: Check out this sunset
Post by: toplessblazer on November 05, 2006, 11:49:00 pm
This was the view out my backyard this evening 11-5. It looked like the mountains exploded. The pic looks cool but it looked even better in person.

Did you go to the Grand Canyon while you were that close to it?

That is a sweet truck. How did that hog do on gas on the way home? Man thats a long drive. I have driven from just south of Columbus, Ohio to Phoenix, Az. several times and that takes about 33-35 hours. I drove it one time straight through with only stopping for gas and food and I slept for about an hour at a truck stop.

The Grand Canyon is awesome. I try to go up there at least once a year. It is about a 4 hour drive from my house. I have some pics on my other computer I will post later.

Yea- unfortunately gas mileage is not its strong point. It's a 1988 so it is fuel injected which helps a little bit. I averaged about 11-12 MPG on the highway which wasn't too bad.

I didnt make it down your way but i did get as close as Prescott where i nearly called my girl friend and told her to send everything i own. I finally found a place where everybody dresses like me and drives trucks like mine! I made a month long trip out of it so i was in no hurry to get home.

My girl friend wanted to fly out to meet me while i was in the Prescott area so i told her to get a flight to Pheonix or Flagstaff or maybe even Las Vegas. Well...she called me and said she got a great deal on an airline ticket...to OKLAHOMA CITY...the next afternoon!!!  One VERY high speed run later i picked her up in OKC and promptly bought her an ATLAS. Her excuse was "I wanted to save you money so i took the cheaper ticket." Then she looked at her new atlas and realized she had made me drive one third of the way across the country in about 12.5 hours.
Oh, well...what can you do.

The worst part was getting the oil changed...once in LA, once in Flagstaff, once in Kansas City and again when i got back to Detroit...spent $100 on oil changes in 1 month.:x

One of these days i will move out that way, somewhere in the southwest. My kids are almost grown now so i'm counting the months.

Awesome pics!!

I should have taken more time on my trip.  I bought a suburban from a place near PHoenix AZ.  So i flew from Richmond Va to Phoenix and drove it back in three days following some of old route 66 and staying on I40 mostly to Knoxville. Then up 81.

I did make one stop in Oklahoma and visited the bombing site.   I too, took serveral pics along the way.

You gotta love the rust free vehicles from the desert!!!!!

I was 13 when I saw the Grande Canyon, the memory of it still makes the hair on the back of my neck standup. It was awsome!

Speaking of rust free trucks here is a couple just beggin for some TLC. They have been sitting in the same spot for over 2 years that I know of. I see these trucks all over the place down here. I wish I had a about 50 fenced off acres. I would have my own 73-87 junkyard

Yeah that one is solid. It has a flat bed on it and dual rear wheels I believe. Want to take another trip out here to pick up another truck?

Yeah, bowtie, wasn't that in the museum next to the oklahoma city bombing?  The bricks in the museum still show cracks in that building from the blast.

Yea SgtDel-

That was in the lobby of the museum. It was the only thing they would let you take pictures of in the museum. That second picture of yours looks kinda familiar...
