i was surfing on FullsizeChevy and there was this member offering to check VIN's at the GM dealer he worked at to see what all info he could pull up on your truck...well, i sent him the Sierra's VIN (triple checked now) and it wouldn't pull up! and this isn't the first time this has happened. when i first bought it the insurance computer said no such truck existed. i have checked on the truck's door sticker, the dash plate and the registration and it's the same. anyone have any clue what's up with my truck?
it's a Canadian-built 1983 GMC K1500 Sierra...

Being Canadian, it probably isn't listed in the dealership. It isn't abnormal that it won't pull it up though. My 1987 didn't pull up either.

What do you mean check vins? Check for what exactly?

well, i figured since he worked at a dealer in Canada it might pull up...oh well. what i mean is he was checking any dealership info on the truck. anything ever put into the GM database...did the original owner take it in for an oil change? well, if it was put in the system i would have seen it...any recalls ever performed on it? well, i'd know which ones and where they were performed...he could also get build sheets and all that good stuff...

Doing a VIN number lookup is very helpful if you are restoring an old/vintage truck. The VIN can give you some useful info about what the truck originally came equipped with.

On 73-87 VIN's it will only tell you the division, chassis, engine, series, body type, year built and where it was built and the "number" it was built. Trim levels and options are listed on it.

well yea, normally you are right, but looking in a GM database can potentially tell you anything relating to that VIN that is in that database. any service, any recall, etc
my truck was made in the Oshawa plant.

True, but I have only had a couple that they were able to pull up via the service database.
