Title: Working on a Caprice Estate Wagon and hope someone can help.
Post by: 1976Scottsdale on June 16, 2008, 10:16:38 pm
I recently purchased a 1987 Caprice Estate station wagon for 500 bucks from a co worker.  Car needed an O2 sensor and the threads stripped out on me when I pulled the old sensor.  Does anyone know if the Flowtech 11152FLT headers for like an 80-87 cutlass with the same 307 olds motor as the caprice might fit?  No one that I can find makes a replacement manifold.

Just tap out the hole or weld in an O2 bung. the bungs are less than 3 bucks at the autoparts store. Or find a used manifold. Is it a 305? I probably have a set of manifolds in the garage.

Forgot to clarify that part.  It is actually a 307 oldsmobile engine.  If wish it were a 305 cause then I'd have a set of el-camino headers I could run.  but sadly it is a B.O.P. engine.  I found a hole chaser on ebay cheap so I just got done ordering it.  I'll update once it gets here.  Car runs fine, but I'm not risking driving with exhaust fumes filling up the cabin area.  I guess I'm just gonna be forced to drive my big K-20 for a while. ;D

I hope the chaser works. You might have to install a helicoil with locktite if the threads are stripped too bad.

The Flowtech 11152FLT's should work fine, so long as you dont 'have angled plugs...  Easiest way to install would be from above, but do so slowly, you may run into slight clearence problems on the Passenger side(Common B-body Wagon problem)....  If it still has A/C, you will need to gently tweak the lines towards the wheel well, or the headers will burn through them, and also you will need to pick up A/C Bracket PN10042FLT.

I also agree with Vile, your best bet would be to weld on a new O2 Bung....

If your overall plan is to have a bit of Performance from it as well, personally I would weld a Bung one of the headers, and then replace the Old CAT with a High-Flow Universal Aftermarket(preferably one with 2.5"In & Out)....  Then to help it Exhail a bit more, add intermediate pipe wlk-44915($22. from Summit) to go from the new Cat to the muffler....  44915 is a 2.5" in & Out that was used on the '89-91 Police Sedans/Wagons....  Ofcourse you will need to pick up a new muffler with a 2.5" in and 2.25" out, to give it a Meaner tone, you can also use wlk-46554($41.99 Summit) for a new 2.25"over the Axle Pipe (Largest they go for wagons, unless you have something custom bent/fabbed....  Also have an Exhaust buddy that makes Custom Mandrel and Welded Pipes, they are pricey, but well worth it), and it deletes the Factory Resonator.....

Sorry for all the Speel, I'm a Longtime B-Body Fan, and Owner ;D

Well, I got the O2 sensor threads all chased and back together.  Not too bad once you get the emissions stuff out the way... which may be permanent with as much room as I have gained.  I founf a used manifold on ebay for cheap so I think I'll buy it for a good spare.  I also found a guy who will do a complete dual system for 350 total for mandrel bent and welded stuff.  I think I'll leave headers for trucks and keep the car with manifolds.
