I second SEM.
-
where can you get "SEM"?
-
I got mine at local auto paint store. Local upholstery shops can help you also.
-
I used duplicolor vinyl dye for my dash pad. worked great. and just regular automotive ext. ;paint for the metal
-
I've used SEM products for years with great success.
-
Eastwood carries SEM products.

Diesel, One important step in painting plastics is the use of some type of adhesion promoter. There are many companies, I've had good results from Bulldog & PPG's DPX 801. The SEM works well, as does PPG's DIU system. On a side note, I never cared much for the body color metal (depending on the color combo) inside the cab. I've done several trucks where I painted the inside metal the same color as the plastic trim & then put flattened clear on it. I break the color on the doors at the bodyline around where the door seal is, so from the inside with the doors closed there is no outside body color showing. Just a thought, Lorne

If you are wanting to paint your interiror, I recommend reading this:

SEM products is what is standard in the upholstery industry...if you do use the SEMs products, I recommend using one of the preps that they have...they have a vinyl prep and a plastic prep...they also have an adhesion promoter also that really isn't necessary if you scotchbrite and use the vinyl or plastic prep...

On the subject of dye- has anyone dyed the actual seatbelt? I'm changing my interior from a nasty beige to black & grey. Dont fancy having new belts shipped over!
-
I have. I bleached them in a bucket then soaked them in black dye. then I washed them 80 times and they came out pretty good. I painted the trim pieces black and they're still holding up.
-
R u serious!! 80 times lol If you take the webbing out the auto roll up thing how do you tension them back up?
-
how we've always done them is to take the seatbelt and pull it all the way out...then take a pin of some sort and put it through the belt as close to the slot in the retractor as possible so that it well not let the seatbelt go back through the slot...then clean them with soap and water...and then we just dye them with the SEMs color that it needs to be...black is the easiest thing to do...black is also the color of dye that covers the best as far as SEM products are concerned...

I just run them all the way out and vice grip them out.
-
after reading this i may do a set,,,,,anybody have the dye come off on their cloths ??
-
if you use the SEMs dye, it shouldn't come off on your clothes...we've never had a problem with it...
