Title: Just put my V8 in
Post by: the_legend_1981 on July 06, 2008, 07:35:06 pm
It was a long weekend so i put a 350 in that I recently picked up. I put headers on and duals that end just before the rearend.  One of the pipes aims right at the rear axle so I was wondering if that would hurt anything for the time being...I plan on putting turndowns on but ran out of time.  It sounds great though, I'll put a video clip on when I get a few extra minutes.

You should work for Rick Hendricks or Joe Gibbs.

I used to put engines in old mustangs in a matter of hours--including the trans and all hookups. I swapped engines in my old stangs so often it was funny.

When I  installed my   383 stroker in my 79 (http://www.delbridge.net/install) I spent a couple of hours each evening after work through the course of several days. Had to take my time and do it right.

Then there was that time when I put a 400 cid w/ a 4spd muncie (attached) in my 70 firebird.  For some reason, after putting a new pressure plate, clutch, etc..on it  I went ahead and put the tranny on the engine, THEN tried to place the engine in the car.  I did it...had to take a 2x4 to help wedge that puppy in there and clear the headers.  Next time, I'll put the trans on after the engine is installed. Man that car with the 3.73 posi would FLY.  I wish i never sold that.

Lots of twisting and turning.  I had to jack up the front of the car quite a bit so the angle would be right.  I am hard-headed, and wasn't about to pull it back out to take the trans and headers off.  It eventually worked.

legend, when you get times we want to see pics  ;D

Sgt, I had a 70 firebird also, 400 4spd, but the bottom end of that 400 got real rattly so I put a 350 chevy in its place. Car was never the same again  :-\

I have never driven a car as fast as that firebird.  Well, except for one when I did the NASCAR experience at Richmond Int'l Raceway.
That engine had recently been rebuilt and my gosh, that front end would lift up so much and burn rubber w/ the posi and fat tires in three gears. I got rid of it because I would have ended up in jail very shortly by driving that thing. I actually pulled that engine from a 76 Trans Am that was totalled.  She was sweet.

Most factory Olds motors were less than impressive but you can do a lot with them. We made my buddy's 84 Hurst Olds into a 368 just to keep it all Olds power plant.

I put the motor and tranny in  my 73 in about 30 minutes.................of course it took 2 hours to put the cab back on and hook up the wires, lol. At the time, I didn't have a shop, and it was easier ( at least I thought it was at the time) to pull the cab off. Four bolts and a steering linkage, and off she came. The front was already off, and I really hate crawling under a truck in the dirt.  Lazy, I know.
