Title: 87 SWB with pics
Post by: mpeche923 on July 08, 2008, 01:25:57 pm
Hi guys,  I have been reading these posts for a while now and once in a while I will chime in...  but I figured I would post a few pictures of my ride:

Some Details:

1987 Chevy
350 4-speed
PW PDL A/C
120,000 miles

I have owned it for 5 yrs now  only change i made was the wheels and tires....

I beleive the lift is only 2.5"   well i measured the blocks and that's how high they are...

It needs new springs bad in the front...bushings are SHOT!!!!    i will move up to a 4" lift  hopefully before winter.....    it sags about a 1/2" lower in the front on the drivers side.....  so i need new springs  :)

Well here is it..........

Loving the black......and where did you get your bed edge caps from (I guess thats what you call them), I like the diamond plate look....thinking they would look fairly nice on my silver c10

+1 on the toolbox too.....My friends keep telling me to put mine back on but its not the right size for my truck....sits in just a lil on both sides

Again NICE

Guys,

Thanks for all the praise.....   I am humbled by everyone here.   I see my truck everyday and I know it needs alot of TLC but it has great bones..  I just hope one day mine will turn out as nice of some of the trucks here....

DnStClr:

Actually that paint has to be close to 10 years old I have had the truck for 5 years now and the paint was just ok when i got it....  I have tried to buff it with a polisher and used plenty of clay bar to get it decent...   it has a ton of fine lines in it and i don't think the paint was ever cured right because to me it seems "soft"  it does not take much to mark it up.....

anyway one of my plans is to repaint someday   but that's way after everything else I have planned...  A friend of mine owns a body shop...  so the plan someday is for me to strip it down in my garage....  you know  bumpers off lights trim etc.   then he picks it up on a flatbed and returns it to me good as new

but like i said that's a few years from now... but we all need a game plan right??

Thanks again for the praise...
Oh and I came across some additional pictures   hope I am not going overboard here... but this is the last of them for now

Thanks everyone for the kind words... truth is this truck is far from "mint"   it takes a good picture just put it that way....  Is it solid... of course... does it run good  YEP....everything work  and a/c is freezing....  but "mint"   definately not..

It's a labor of love....  hopefully someday i can restore/modify it the way i want to.... until then... it's a good driver  :)

Again  I really appreciate all the feedback and if i can answer any questions feel free to ask  :)

Thanks
Mike

Title: Some updated pics
Post by: mpeche923 on May 13, 2009, 08:30:34 am
Hi guys:

I have been working on my 4" lift and it's 95% done.  I say that because It's going to my friends' shop Friday so he can replace my upper and lower ball joints on the drivers side and change the steering arm..  (I just could not get it off myself) and an alighment  anyway....  Here is a pic of before, when it had the 2" lift  and then after with the 4"   there is a ton of room now for the 33's  :)

Please overlook the rusty rockers...  my goal with this truck is to get all the suspension/steering set first before I begin to tackle the rust repair/replace.  once it leaves my friends I have to install the dual steering stabilizers and clean and paint the chassis  (body on unfortunately)  but it's getting there.....

Thanks
Mike

thanks man....  i HOPE someday to have it as nice as yours...  :)

I was upset with myself that I could not get the entire lift done myself... including the arm....  but you have to know your limits and my friend said bring it down...  I will do the rest for you..   so Friday it's happening...

BTW....  i was surprised that it still steers the same even with the severe angle of the tie rod connected to the stock arm....   hmmmm  .....

anyway thanks again....

Very Nice. If it wasn't for friends, I wouldn't have even bought my truck, because I have needed there help so many times it's ridiculous.

Thanks Guys....  OK here is the update:

I gave the truck to my friend who is a mechanic on Friday.  He did the steering arm for me, upper and lower ball joints, and tie rod that connects to the steering arm itself.
Aligned the truck and pretty much went over everything I did...  after working on newer vehicles all the time, he loved working on mine and actually had it until Saturday afternoon just tinkering with it making sure everything was good.   Also he said everyone who came in loved the truck and began talking about it...  I guess I never realized how nice it is...  I love these trucks and I will have mine for a long time coming.  Of course it still needs some work... but then again it's all part of it...

OK now onto the fun...  Yesterday I put on the Dual SS and took a few pics.   Oh and my wife said now I need bigger tires  :)   35's will be my next set once these are gone...
Enjoy:

Sorry for all the grease/grime etc.  Now at my leisure I am going to try and clean everything and put on a nice coat of chassis paint  etc.

Thanks
Mike

Its looking great. Gotta love when the wife says it needs bigger tires. My wife was so mad when I took my 44"s off she tells me all the time to put bigger ones back on it.

When Chris does nominations either someone would nominate you or you nominate yourself. I would however make it a pic of the truck by itself.

Vile:   thanks for the clarifacation.....  Oh and I have always read your posts... your trucks are killer man......  one day I hope to get mine as nice as yours  :)  and congrats on the promotion.....

Layne:   Nope.....  it's not  :)   it's on 05 CBR 600rr....    you ride??    it looks like a Kawi from the read because for a few years they both used the center up exhaust :)

I'll have to take a few pics of the truck alone in the garage..... then i can post them as well...
thanks
Mike

the Garage Floor really makes the whole garage come alive...

Title: Back from the Body Shop
Post by: mpeche923 on May 10, 2011, 02:30:47 pm
Hey there I am in the process of doing a Frame ON restoration of my 87 SWB   I have taken care of all the mechanicals on it to this point and I was smart enough to know my limits so I had the body done by a local shop that came highly recommended.

Here is a before and after picture the after picture was taken with a cell phone..  I will post up better ones in the future...    The following was replaced:

Hood
Both Doors
Inner and outer fenders
Rockers cab corners and floors
Tailgate and Front Bed Panel
Roll Pan

Hey guys    thanks for all the great comments....  I will try and respond to all of these here at one time....

First off  thanks to everyone for the nice comments  I am trying not to break the bank on this truck but I still want it to look nice....
I guess it will never be done right.....

I can get everyone the code for the paint but it's actually a DODGE color  :(   i know i know   it's the Graphite Metallic Grey they have on the 2009 and 2010 Dodge pickups.

I know in the original picture it did not look that bad.... but it did have alot of the usual rust these trucks have   and actually the bed was rust free.....  It's a sold truck definately...

Westernhauler:  please PM me and we can discuss the body panel issue away from here....  cost vary and so does quality of the parts....

thanks again
Mike

I can take some of the interior but the engine compartment needs some attention... that's my next move....  it's just dirty more then anything else.....

the truck is stock....  nothing special under the hood   350 4-speed   PW PDL A/C   :)
