Title: New Edelbrock - 2k idle, need help!
Post by: Bowtie Bomber on July 17, 2008, 04:44:26 pm
Hey guys I just bought a 600 cfm electric choke edelbrock and just put it on my '82 Silverado. For some reason it idles WAY to high, it idles at 2k RPM. I'm a Holley guy so this is a new ball park for me. Can anyone help me out? I need to get this done before sun down.

Did you hook up the vacuum line for the brake booster in the back of the carb?

Sounds like a vacuum leak.

After looking around the carb, I realized there was a plug hole for an optional power brake setup. So I looked in the box, found the plug for it and plugged it up. She runs AWESOME now! 800 RPM Idle, GREAT response and I get wayyy better fuel mileage. I really don't know why I was bothering with that Holley I had. I guess you where right Vile when you recommended an Edelbrock for a carb.

Thanks!

What's wrong with a holley? I mean besides usually jetted too high (even for Houston which is lower than sea level), a power valve system which offers less driveability than a rod and spring enrichment system (even if you go to a dual stage), getting fuel all over the manifold when you want to change jets, gaskets below the fuel level (which can cause a leak if the gaskets don't seal), and the requirement of having the secondaries deliver fuel/air to keep the fuel in the secondary bowls fresh among other issues.

Glad you got it running good.
