My truck wasn't a project until some lady tried to drive under the side of it.... >:( That aside, now it's going to be a project and I don't quite know the route I want to go. I'm not a big stickler for keeping it like it rolled out of the factory, unless it was a special edition or something. I'm pretty sure I want to keep it the silver it is now, but I may not, who knows. I always liked the two tone paint schemes for the 73-80's and may paint mine in a two tone. So anyone with Ideas, let me have em! I'm up for anything that basically follows the paint schemes it could have had new Show me your two tones that are other colors too, If I saw something I had to have I'd do a color change on it. The side trim and all chrome and badging WILL be staying like it is, but the mirrors will be changed since they are mismatched and it annoys the crap out of me. I may get dumbos or the small tripods like came factory on these trucks.
Here's some basic ideas I came up with in MS Paint (it's all I have.)
Here's how it is currently, solid paint

Here's my ideas

I kinda like the red one, But the exact shades of silver and red haven't been determined yet.
I have other ideas, but using paint to work on this is a royal PITA ???
Thanks ahead guys

I LOVE 2 tones on the 73-80's. I would go with a brighter red though ( I realize it is MS paint and I must say I am impressed)
-
My vote is for the red/silver first, black/silver second.
Actually, one of my favorite schemes ever is from the other site:
http://www.73-87.com/7387info/articles/82dooley01.jpg
It's a, sort of, different black/silver two-tone with a tinge of red. But i don't know how it would look on a 1/2 regular cab.
-
If you don't mind me robbing your pics, I have photoshop and could come up with any hue you desire. You tell me what you want and I can send them back or post here.
-
If you are gung ho on 2 tone I'd recommend the silver and black... and different mirrors.
-
Here ya go bigkountry, Here's the original photo.

Right now I'm liking the red/silver and black/silver. The exact shade of any of the paint isn't written in stone. The silver can change some, lighter or darker, but not too light. I've had 3 light silver cars and I'm tired of the color. I think if I do a color change I want it black with a silver inset, Maybe the yellow stripe on the trim like the 77's, i dunno. If I can I don't want to do a total color change.
I like that dooley stewart g. My favorite scheme on most any truck is silver on black. I also like the 77's in black with the gold stripe on the trim, but I've never seen a longbed like that.
Thanks for your input guys, keep em coming. Sometime this week I should have the front end rebuilt and aligned and can start messing with fixing the body.
-
Black for sure but put some sparkle in it to be different. 2nd choice would be a lighter version of the maroon with metallic. 95 Lumina red, don't remember what they called it.
-
I'll work somethin up for ya.
So you wiuld like to see a black with silver inlay down the side and another with a darker shade of silver with red inlays then?
-
I like the black personally, but the darker shade of red would coordinate nicely w/ the red interior. definately not white though.

Yes Sir!
-
I will try my best to get something to you shortly, works kind of slowing me down on my computer time, but bear with me I'll get r done.
-
No hurry man! I'm quite a ways off from paint ;D
-
Here's a few, the red one was kind of difficult. I couldn't get the contrast to act right, but it's close. The red has a deeper charcoal tone to it as well.

Let me know if you want anything changed or if you want more colors. I'm still a novice at PS, but I'm learning.

Actually, that's an idea (the first picture from bKountry) orange and black. Good if you're an orioles fan.
Let's step back a minute and realize what is going on. And i'm not nessesarily saying that this is a bad thing:
Grown men, on a truck website, discussing color combinations. Does this match? Does this go good with that?
Think about it.
Again, i do not state that this is nessesarly bad.
-
Now come on its not like were trying to match curtians with a couch we are talking trucks man like hanging beer signs in the garage (man cave).
-
If it makes yall feel better none of the women around here like the gray/red combo ;D I had that same argument with my mother the other day. She thinks it's dumb I even care about what color the truck is, just like I don't care what colors are inside her house :D I'm gtting the truck out later to start rebuilding the front end and when I do I'm going to look over it really well to see if the body will even take black paint. If I can, I'll tell you what, that trucks going to be black/silver. I've already invisioned it. I want it that black granite color on the new malibu's (Basically black metallic) And A Medium Silver color I saw on a New Dodge Ram for the insert 8). If it won't take black or will be too much work, I think I'm pretty certain it'll be some variation of the silver/red combo. Thanks for the pics bigkountry, That black/silver looks so dang good. :o I think i stared at the pic for 10 or 15 mins and can't find anything I don' like about the black/silver combo. I like the darker silver in the red pic. I think I have what I need now, the only thing will be me picking out a shade of red I like. Thanks man! If any of yall come up with any other ideas, let me know.
-
Turns out I don't wanna do the work to make the truck take black paint, so Silver/Red wins!

YO!! Bigkountry!! could you show me how orange top and bottom and the black line would look? I'm useless wit ms paint!! Oh and two black lines up the hood ;)
-
My opinion: I like the silver/black and the silver/bright red. The contrast is sharp! Are you planning to match the rooftop to the body-side color?
-
Silver/white looks best...I always liked the white in the middle.
-
No, I don't care too much for the matched roof thing.
-
Silver and Black Center gets my Vote!

Meh! A. I grew up around Sisters, so I pay attention to colors and combination contrasts.... B. I was trainned in Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing, which made me even more of a Color Contrast Nit-Picker :P
No, I don't care too much for the matched roof thing.
You know usually I don't either, but to me these trucks just seem right with the Tops painted different....
My Truck is a Hawaiian Blue Metallic, and a Lighter Blue on the top, a way I would like to keep(Just a Different Color Combo), but I want to add a Color to the center of the Trim area.... My Wife Doesn't Care for a full Blue body(family superstion for the color), so it's probably going to be Black, yet I would like the top to be a Nice Heavy Metallic(Red,Blue,Silver,Green, Charcoal,or even an Extremely Heavy Metallic Black, since the body won't be).....

YO!! Bigkountry!! could you show me how orange top and bottom and the black line would look? I'm useless wit ms paint!! Oh and two black lines up the hood ;)
I assume you would like hugger orange or similar?
-
blimey you must be psycic (!) hugger orange is EXACTLY what I had in mind!! and a black roof :D as we say over here "You're da man!"
-
I'd like to see it in a silver/blue tutone..dark blue ;)
-
i would say black/orange would look real sweet. that is exactly what i had in mind with doin to my pickup. hugger orange naturally.
-
black with red splitter
-
Ok, give me a bit to get them done...work is back on for the week so it might be a few days.
78 Chevyrado, is it ok with you to use your truck as a "test mule" so to speak?
-
Sure, have fun with it ;D

I like the red on this pic
(http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t195/wes2880/78%20C20%20paint%20ideas/Frontleft2-Redtwotone.jpg)
And i like the darkened silver in this pic
(http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii47/jennifer_dirk/silver-red.jpg)
Think you could combine the two colors?
-
Yeah, I can do that. Thanks for the use of the pic!
-
Ok, I tried to fill everyones requests. ;D If I did not get your color combo right or you want to see a variation of one, let me know.
