Title: Starter on 91 S-10
Post by: 75 C20 on January 30, 2007, 07:50:00 pm: my starter on my 91 s10 with a 2.8 hasnt been engaging all the time when i go to fire it up. it will spin like crazy a lot on the 1st time of turning the key- then i let off and try it again and usally it engages and turns it over. so i was thinkin bout gittin a starter repair kit from . its only like $17 so i hope that fixes it. any ideas/tips on this project- im hopeing to git it done on like a sat. will it be very hard to do with out a lift or is the starter pretty easy to take off- and how hard is rebuilding one-i ve never had to rebuild one before so i dont know wut exactly im gittin into but it doesnt look to be that hard

What comes in this "kit"?

Replacement starters aren't all that expensive either. I never found the occation to rebuild one short of swapping a nose.

Anyway if your starter is engaging and not disengaging and it is overrunning then the starter solenoid is sticking and that's your problem. That's an ez repair. If the motor is turning your brush repair kit is a waste of $$

this is the kit
its in the bottom corner- part number 36-1526
it says it has remanufactured starter drive, bushings, brushes, washers and snap ring

Post by: roundedline on February 01, 2007, 10:30:00 am: This kit won't fix your problem, you either need a new solenoid, or you need to pull the current one apart and find out what is causing it to stick.

Are you getting enough voltage to the starter?

Post by: VileZambonie on February 02, 2007, 04:39:00 pm: If the motor is turning but the drive pinion in't coming out, pop the solenoid off and see if you can actuate it with the plunger. If you can then replace the solenoid.
