Title: Won't gear down
Post by: gbskunk2006 on August 02, 2008, 11:19:02 am
When I want to gear down (e.g. when going down a steep hill) and I move my column shift lever from DRIVE into 2nd my transmission doesn't gear down.  However, if I start off in 2nd gear (e.g. from a complete stop) it holds in 2nd until I move my shift lever to DRIVE.

I have a 4.3 litre V6, automatic), with approx 150,000 miles (250,000 km) shifts cleanly, and other than this little problem hasn't given me any problems.

I'm hoping a minor adjustment will take care of this?

Is the linkage adjusted correctly? The manual valve should override and put you into 2nd when you select second.

I have had a broken trans mount that has caused problems similiar to that as well.
