Title: 454 Tune-up
Post by: Mr. Lee K30 on August 13, 2008, 01:10:11 am
So for tuning up the 454 I bought Accel shorty spark plugs, Taylor Spiral Pro 8mm wires w/ 135* boots and a Summit Blueprinted HEI dizzy w/ 50,000v coil.  What should I set the gap to on the plugs and any other recommendations (timing, vac advance, etc).  The 454 was from a 1992 motor home and completely rebuilt with Edelbrock performer manifold and 750 carb, and has Flowtech headers.

.035" Set your initial timing at 10°BTDC and advance it from there. Once you find where it behaves the best for you recheck the timing and record your #s. Do you have an advance timing light?

Nope, I wished I would of known about those before I bought a "regular" inductive timing light a couple of months ago  :(  Hmm maybe I could rent one at Auto Zone or something...

You'll never know what your timing is without one.
