I know that '88 is when the body style changed, but how different were the motors? I was looking into a Cold Air kit from K&N, and they have a kit for an '88 C1500, but not an '87 R10, which is what I have. I recently put in a 350 that was from an '88, but I used my TBI and intake from the original 305. So, are the throttle bodies the same? Would I be able to install the kit, or are the 88 models different under the hood?

The throttle bodies are the same but the air cleaners were different. That one you are looking at is made to go where the factory one is.

So there was an air cleaner on the inside fender in the 88 model? Hmm, I was looking forward to installing a kit.

87-91 motors were identical, in fact up to 93 was the same basic engine
The TBI is the same from 2.8L, 4.3L, 5.0 and 5.7 and 7.4L minus the 454SS.
The truck should already have a fresh air kit on it that goes to the core support, so you aren't going to be gaining anything with that kit. Just put a good filter on it.

You could always add another snorkel to your current air cleaner and use both air intake holes in the core support, like Haulin It did. I am working on a project (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=9131.0) like this, using two '92 TBI truck air cleaners. Personally, I think a tube style intake would look odd and out of place in one of our trucks.

Wow, I really like what you did Kooler. Would you mind explaining how you did that? Where did you get that piece the goes on the carb? What about the tubes, did you just buy tubing, or were those made for that? Did you notice a big difference when you put that on?

the intake hat is made by Spectre.
its a Dual 4" inlet.
the couplers are from lowes and are 4" sewer pipe couplers.
the tubing is a 4" Exhaust elbow from a big truck shop that i cut in half.
the filters are from autozone and are universal.
price break down.
Intake Hat: 78.99 shipped from summit
Couplers: 12.00 from Lowes
Exhaust Pipe: 40.00 from I'ntl truck dealer
Filters: 55.00 from autozone
and as for a performance kick, it helps a lot better right now at speed. im working on kinda boxing the filters from engine heat.
as now at idle its just like a open element filter, but at speed when cool air is hitting the filters it responds soo much better.

Not that I'm trying to copy you, but may I ask exactly where you got those tubes? Do you mean it's an exhaust pipe from those big huge International trucks? Is there anything else I could use?

pretty much its exhaust pipe.
you could use some 4" PVC pipe.

I heard that PVC pipe is bad for your engine when you use it like that. Is there any truth to that?

ive used PVC pipe without issues.
i just use the thick gray colored stuff.
its made to withstand extreme temps and such.
it is a bit heavy but wont heat soak like metal pipe will.

Or you could do what i did.....Put a Hood scoop on your truck...And then Put a Hood scoop plate on your carb so all that cold air is shoved in....K&N Even makes hood scoop filters..When it rains...Put the plug in the scoop..:P

That's not my preference, and it would probably cost more also.
