Title: abs plastic repair
Post by: 78rustbucket on March 17, 2007, 08:52:00 pm
ok not sure what this should be under, anyways i was checking out a forum at a audio site (which one i forget) and a found a thread about mixing small abs shavings with a little bit of acetone to make a plastic paste. i tried it out and it works awesome, way better than any expoxy ive ever tried. repaired a 67 impala console that had about 2 inches busted and missing on the rear of the top half using this goopy stuff and foil tape. dried hard overnight and melted into the edges of the console maiking it easy to blend in without a crack line. prob the best thing since sliced bread lol. too bad there isnt much abs on a 73-87

unfortunatly i didnt take any pics of the procedure, wasnt even sure if itd work, got a before pic and after. im a plumber so i cut some black abs drain pipe in a mitre saw and when i got a hand full of shavings in a small tupperware container i added about a teaspoon of acetone, dissolved abs pretty much instantly. doesnt have to be abs pipe, even lego peices would work i guess

Somebody told me ( and I want to check with ya on it) that if two guys are standin in a pit of crap, and a guy swings a shovel at them, you can tell which one is the plumber- he's the one that ducks....:rollin
My buddy is a plumber- he told me that.
