I am presently working on the wiring etc to install a 6.5 NA engine in my `76 K20 Silverado.
I'll be upgrading the `76 cluster with the mechanical oil pressure gauge to a `78 cluster with an electric pressure gauge and a Tach. The `78 Tach and Speedometer have 4 warning lamp positions.. 2 pairs at the bottom of the large gauges.
I would like to put the diesel specific lamps/filters "water in fuel" and "wait to start" in the cluster rather than kluge it. "BRAKE" is a must keep and the "4x4" indicator would be nice to keep... Wiring them clean and neat in loom, with the proper connectors from the sensors, through the firewall, to the plug on the back of the cluster is not a problem.
In the 82+ 6.2l trucks where are the "water in fuel" and "wait to start" lamps located? Do the later clusters have filters for 4 warning lamps?

On my 1980 there was an additional pair of warning lamps between the speedo and fuel gauge. IIRC it said water in fuel and wait to start.

Odd. They didn't use any of the empty lamp positions under the Speedo and Fuel gauge. ???
Was the Water in Fuel sensor an aftermarket part or did GM actually use a real fuel filter in the tail end production of the Olds Diesel truck engine.

I don't think the WIF sensor was aftermarket because the diesel trucks had electrical connections on the passenger side of the firewall for the wiring to connect to. They were right next to the fuel filter and water separator unit. Was your K20 originally diesel? Don'tcha want to put a turbo'd engine in?

As vile stated, the diesels had those in between the speedo/fuel gauges.

...at the top of the cluster.

Knowing the position helped greatly. I was able to find some pictures of the GM lamps but I didn't know what I was looking at. Their installation, while factory, looks like an afterthought. Unfortunately GM really cheaped out in the 80s and early 90s. >:( I'm researching printing custom filters for all 4 lamp positions in the base of the Tach and Speedo.
1976 was before the 350 Olds Diesel.
I may try a Banks Sidewinder kit later if it'll fit with the AC "suitcase" on the firewall.
