I currently have an 87 SWB with a stock 350. Up until a week ago it had the stock exhaust. Last week the short 12" of pipe between the cat and the muffler gave way. I then noticed that pretty much everything past that to the tailpipe was rotted as well....
To try and save a few bucks replaced the piece behind that cat..... and well i clamped on a dump piece of pipe and removed the muffler and tailpipe. So now the exhaust stops well before the rear axle.
The truck sounds really good right now because the only piece to deaden the sound is the cat....
My question is this.... Did I do any harm by this... i don't drive the truck often probably once a week if that from March until November (I have a bike) But I am concerned i might mess up the motor by not having much backpressure... I hope i did not confuse anyone and would appreciate any thoughts your guys would have....
Or maybe I am just being to cautious and some may say... let her rip hahaha :)
Thanks
Mike

Correct me if I am reading this wrong, but you had a pipe section go out and you replaced it. Then you found everything from the muffler back was rotted so you removed it and put a pipe on the end without a muffler...
If that is correct, you are fine.

Yeah... hahaha i thought i was a bit confusing..... so just to be extra clear.... after the cat...... 12" of pipe and a piece welded on that dumps the exhaust down.... that's no no muffer anymore or tailpipe :)
Thanks
Mike
So am I still fine?? besides being louder??

with your soda staw y-piped, cat convertored factory exhaust you still have plenty of back pressure :P

Other than it becoming REALLY annoying after a while, you will be fine.
