Title: Trough just inside rocker on floor
Post by: bob77 on August 26, 2008, 04:18:07 pm
Sorry I can't post pics right now to help describe my issue. The 77 I just picked up is in really good shape as far as the cab is concerned. The only issue is on the passenger side just inside of the rocker on the floor. There is that little trough that runs along the edge of the floor. About 1/2 and inch wide and 3/4 of an inch deep. I'm sure you know what I am talking about. I have some pretty good surface rust along there and about 4-5 inches of it is starting to rush through on the bottom. I hat to buy a whole floorpan just to use that little piece of it. Does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative? I suppose I could just get some steel and try to bend a decent piece and have it welded in. I also thought of trying to cut a piece of tubing lengthwise along one side  and kind of make it fit down in there. Perhaps someone has a grand idea. I've owned 4 of these trucks and this one has by far the best looking floorboards of anyone I have owned. I want to jump on that repair asap to keep the floor from getting bad.
Also.. Any opinions on "EXTEND" rust treatment from Loctite for stopping rust?

You need part of this piece.  It goes behind the rocke, but it costs more than the floor pan.

i would go to a junk yard and see if they will let you cut the piece out of a good floor and weld it in yours

I would use some flat stock or square stock to make a piece. Clamp the metal down under the square stock, and use a hammer to roll the sheet metal up both sides.

Thanks Blazin. That sounds like an awesome idea that would give me something most closely resembling the original structure. I knew that someone here would have a better idea than me.
I just have to say that finding this forum has been INCREDIBLY helpful. I have owned 4 different 73-87 2WD short boxes. All of which I have had grand plans for but have never been able to find the time or money. This 77 I have now will be the one and I'm grateful to all here for all of the helpful info I have received already.

stop the water!! If I knew they were available (and shipping!) I would have got them. Made a new floor, inner rocker and trough etc and managed to get new outer rockers to do the job. Thats when I had time..............
