anyone know a cheap way to get more power out of my 305? any suggestions at all? ???
-
Is it an original 4 barrel 305? If it is a good flowing cheap dual plane intake and set of small tube headers seem to be the way to go for me. I find a noticable improvement with just these two mods. I have been told the 2 barrel version of this motor has more restrictive heads from the factory but I cannot confirm this, I had a 2bbl and changed to 4bbl, Aluminum intake and headers and it still seemed to help it, could have been the holly 4bbl in place of the original 2bbl... :-\

no its efi. i do really want to put headers and true duals on it. it would give me more power and more sound ;D

How much power are you wanting? If I remember, those LO5 305s only made about 170hp. If you're not wanting to pull the engine....Then I suggest.
Edelbrock Performer TBI intake
Get 2 new injector pod gaskets and longer bolts for them, the extra 1/4 inch actually helps!
Headers
Open Element Air Cleaner
Underdrive Pulleys
Dial your timing in if you want more power, You may have to run 93 octane though with the advance to prevent pinging.
But those mods would run you around..... depend if you bought new or used, $350-$750
The best bang for the buck is a set of gears (3.73, 3.90, 4.10).

eventually if i get the money to im going to drop a 350 crate motor in it, bu as of now im just trying to get a few more hp.

Exhaust, cam & chip
-
Definately a cam. I've seen guys hitting low 13's and high 12's with big cammed 305's in thirdgen f-bodies. And like was mentioned before, headers and a chip. If you're gonna keep the EFI, you can't go too crazy with the cam.
-
yea i dont want to go too crazy with it but just some more power. thanks for the ideas.

I'd stick with stuff you can transfer to the 350. Headers and full exhaust are a good idea. I would resist the temptation to go open air cleaner. The stock air cleaner should flow enough for that 305, and it's nice cold air. I've heard good things about the power charger (http://marine-performance-parts.com/hypertechpowerchargerforfullsizetruckgmtbi5057.aspx) and injector spacers (http://marine-performance-parts.com/cfmtechinjectorspacerforgmtbi435057.aspx) for TBI engines. If you do go with a cam stay mild like this (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2DK1102&autoview=sku) cam.
