Post by: Stewart G Griffin on August 29, 2008, 10:13:27 pm
i bumped into this while researching welding:

But more importantly, could you tell me about the hood?  Was this an option for gmc?

barrett jackson is artificially driving up prices on collectible cars and those are obvious aftermarked hood scoops

I agree with you totally about Ferrett's and can't wait till it, along with the others finally disappear(Atleast from the Mainstream of the Automotive World!).... >:(

Got to disagree on the Scoops though, those could easily be sourced from one of the Driver's Hauls, if not over the counter at the local Ma MoPars Stealership.... Those are were commonly found on Demons/Darts/Dusters/ and the likes.....

I do agree that the truck saw actual Duty, if not atleast Parade Statis, and the scoops should be on there :-X.....

Good call on the hood scoops Dragon! I was thinking...hmmm, That hood looks like more like a Coronet hood, than a Chevy truck :-\ .  A guy could buy a new wrecker for the same money. Obviously there is more to the story. Lorne

Thanks Haulin, I grew up loving the Big3, so they were easy to spot...  My older brother had a '74 Dart Sport, and I always wanted to get him to add some to it, but a buddy of his trashed it one night( bro was passed out in the passenger side, and his buddy was supposedly the sober one)....

Let's forget about the wrecker apparatus for now, because i'm sure that's worth some money.

Let's say this was just a chassis-cab.  If it only has 200 miles on it, which is what they're claiming, then, to me, in the condition that it is in, would be worth no more than 28K.  Actually, that's being generous.  i would say no more than 25K.

The interior is virtually perfect.  It appears to have a big block with air and it appears to be a one-ton chassis.

That's not to say that selling for $50k was a bad deal for the  new owner.  If the new owner has a museum, or, a personal collection of 73-87's or something similar, it could make the missing vehicle the buyer wanted.  If it ended up in another museum, I'd say it was a good deal for the new owner and perhaps the least expensive vehicle in ownership.

This is not a vehicle to drive or for towing. It is a treasure and symbol of the past of one of the most popular vehicles in American history. It is surely a one-of-a-kind representation of 70's history.

If I had the money and was a Jay Leno or someone similar, I'd buy it for $50k.

Uh, yea... really, really, really nice truck but regarding the hood scoops: I seriously doubt they're factory installed--- look at the photo showing the engine w/hood open... clearly are non-functional fakes... much like The Desperate House Wives (of Orange County) with a bunch of fake stuff poking out upfront... (ooops,  :o hope that's not to racey?)
