Title: New Guy
Post by: Thermal Izod on September 02, 2008, 02:29:43 pm
Hey everyone, I'm new here, and to trucks...I'm very knowledgable on EFI cars, so this should be a fun experience for me...I just bought an 82 k10 Silverado.

Question is, it has a 305, 4bbl and a lumpy cam....Any idea what kinda power numbers it might be putting out?  It feels like 165HP is underrated, b/c this truck pulls decently hard for a 5000+ pounder at under 200HP.

Thanks, and I'm glad to have joined the community.

Are you sure it's a 305? There's no way to know what you have for HP without a dyno especially not knowing what's in there.

Welcome Thermal Izod! I'm glad we have another guy who's good with our tbi questons! Have you weighed your truck? You might find it to be less than 5000lbs if it's a shortie.

Interesting, maybe it is lighter, i dunno....All I do know is that it is the correct casting number, it has the 4bbl, and a nice lumpy cam.  Otherwise, no clue, it's supposedly stock.  I was just surprised, bc/ the day before I bought this one, i drove an 88 TBI 350, and that motor was actually running well, but fell on it's face.  It was so slow it was almost not road worthy, no exaggeration (like my 1st car as a kid-caprice).  Then I drive the 305, which is supposed to have less HP and more weight, and it's about as quick as any average daily driver car/truck you would drive.  Just surprised me, it pulled like a small-block should, not like a lot of 1980's chevy's actually do, u know?

Anyway, yes, i can probably help in the future w/ EFI questions, and I'm sure I'll have a million for everyone else...Thanks for the welcome messages, glad to be here.

FYI:  I was able to clean a door sticker enough to read it, and chevy says it is 6100lbs curb weight.

I think you are reading GVW which isn't curb weight.  The weight of the truck ins't stamped on the door sticker.   Is it a long bed or a shortbed?

it's a shortbed...I could be wrong, all I'm sure of is that I read "xxxx Kg/6100Lbs"
