Title: drip rail delete
Post by: jhare54 on September 16, 2008, 08:13:34 pm
Hey guys! I have a 85 chevy, and I'm contemplating removing the drip rails above each door. Ive had many people tell me they have had no problems with leaks. This is going to be a custom but I want full driveability! Will water come in my doors?

Water will not get into your cab unless the door seal is bad. If it is water would be getting in now. the gutter serves no sealing capacity. All they are for is to keep large amounts of water dropping onto you, and cutting some water down entering the cab.

I have a 73 (they didn't have drip rails nor did most 74's).  If you have a nice slick paint job and water is beading on it nicely and you open the door in the rain, water will drop in on you.  The drip rails channel it to the back of the cab.  Is it bad, not enough that I would put them back on.

They definitely help but I have them shaved on one of my trucks and if it's raining you will get water when you open the door. If it's a daily driver I'd keep em. Weekend warrior I say ditch em.

I am keeping mine. I've had them off for a few months now and got a lap full of water a few times.

Mine are gone as well but so is most everything else. Depends on what you want the finished product to look like.
