Title: Paint Code
Post by: Bitzer! on September 17, 2008, 06:15:23 am

oh people of wonderous knowledge  ;)   I've decided to paint my truck in orange and decided on this one - 02-0082-1 but no-one seems to be able to tell me what it was originally painted on or what its proper name is! eg VW - Ford - GMC etc

would any of you guys/gals who work in a bodyshop be able to tell me?

Bitzer, One problem is that the paint companies we have here in the states & what you have over there are going to be different. That number sequence doesn't look familiar to me. Even if you have PPG,Dupont,R-M,Nason, ect. ect. The numbering system is likely to be different. Your best bet is to go to the paint store & pick the color. This way you will know what it is & that they can mix it. What paint companies do you have over there, Glasurit, Spies, What else? Lorne

Lorne to be totally honest I dont know. A guy I know gave me about 10 colour books/charts and said pick! The number I gave was from a flick chart of about 500 red thru to orange. I've now been told the code is just 0082 !! lol the paint is twopack not water based and my bro's gonna paint it cos thats one thing I cant do!

I'm off work this week coming and hoping to do all the bodywork ready for him- it needs loads and I want it "just" right so its gonna take ages. I'm one of those that will do it ten times to get it right then its just as good as the 1st time I done it lol

Had a result with the donkey (engine!) too - guy at work owes me a favour for doing DIY at his house. He's gonna get the bottom end rebuilt and painted!!

Is there a way to post whatever the books may have written on the front, back,or spines, or even a copy of what one of the apges my look like, by scanning the page, and uploading the pic????  There has to be more info on the color choices, unless your buddy has a Master Sheet or Chart to go along with the Color Charts and Books he gave you.....  Another words, he gave you Paint Chip Flip Books, and the Number of the book itself, plus the number of the selected chip, only has a reference to a Master List that only he has(Some Paint Supply/Body Shops will spray colors and catalog them for their own Personal/Location Use, weither for themselves, or to give a customer to have an actual color chip to go by)....
