Since i have owned my 83 swb the voltage has always been very low on the gauge. when i roll the windows up or down ( electric windows) it will draw the gauge all the way to low side in the red. and also if i have the a/c on it will draw the gauge all the way in to the red. this hasnt caused any battery failure yet, but i would like to figure something out before it does happen. i have shaved door handles and key locks, so a dead battery is not something that i want to happen. Does anyone have a solution to this or something in mind for me to check out?

Test the battery, fully charge it, then test alternator

Verify the accuracy of the gauge with a meter. If output is low do a voltage drop test on the alternator and battery. If it checks out ok replace the alternator. The field circuit is integrated.
