Hey Guys...I have an 82 K10, and it it bone stock, to include the old AM/FM radio. Question is...Where is the antenna for this thing? Reception is REALLY bad, and I don't have an external antenna. Where does it get reception from?
-
Should be in the Windshield
-
Check the connector at the base of the windshield in the center.
-
Looks and Snaps in place like a Button on your jacket.... If you don't have a Wired Antenna in your windshield, your Lucky, so just pick up a Stealth Antenna, and mount it anywhere you want(The Stock Embeded Antennas leave alot to be desired, when it comes to a good reception) ;)
-
thanks guys

I actually prefer the windshield antenna and always got decent reception.

Right there with you Ville, but I will generally have to replace my windshield, and the Majority of the Aftermarket replacements have been hit & miss for me..... Most of them that I have had, have suffered from a Break in the wires, due to them melting with the pieces being sandwiched together.....
-
why dont you just replace it with this it comes with the antenna in it and you can replace the parts with it.

I would think you can get a better deal than that locally from a glass shop because classic is going to charge you to ship it, and Shipping companies aren't known for their finess in handling "fragile" items, so...
I think the last windshield I had replaced was $125 and they installed it.

Forgive my ignorance, but
What is a stealth antenna?

No Worries, they are Antennas that are meant to be mounted out of sight.... Ie under dash,In the Trunk, or My Preference, Under the Headliner on the Roof for best signal strength...... There are various types, so just look or ask about a Hidden or Stealth Antenna at a Local Audio Shop or Store, and you can find them by Googling them..... They are meant to be used in place of a Fender Mount or In-Windshield Antenna for a Cleaner Appearence to your Car or Truck.... The Mounting location is key to how well it works, as you will get a crummier signal in places that are obstructed too much(Ie to me certain places under dash, and in the Trunk)....

Before you do anything make sure that your antenna is hooked into the back of your old radio. It sounds like it's not hooked up, to me. There's a wire in the middle of your window and the bottom, the button-lookin' thing mentioned above. The wire that runs from it should go to the back of your stereo. You may be able to feel around on your stereo and see if the antenna is hooked up, or not. It's a pretty good sized wire, the size of cable tv coax.
If you do happen to ever upgrade your radio, as I just found out, you probably need a 1' antenna extension (smallest I found was 1') because the old antenna is about 2" too short. If you ever do that, the best place to find the extension is on eBay, just make sure you don't get a "mini" extension and stay away from anything with the word "adaptor". I'm on my 3rd extension! The first one had a manufacturing error, 2nd one was some awful monstrosity from WalMart (looked like a big spider thing with 6 wires on it). I ordered one today from eBay. If this one doesn't work I'm takin' it to a custom car stereo place and lettin' them do it! :D
