ive been entertaining the idea of converting my c10 to diesel for gas mileage / ability to use biodiesel, not the save-the-world reason, but you can actually make it for less than a buck a gallon.
anyway, i was looking at a local salvage yard and they have a couple 6.6l and 8.1l turbo-diesel engines from 2001. do you think this will fit in an '80 swb c10? which would you go with?
i also saw a gale banks kit on a 1 ton dually that actually out ran a mustang gt, pretty good for a big truck, now in a light weight swb.....

A huge job. I wouldn't mess with it. Much better off going with a 6.2/6.5 conversion.

If you want a diesel I would definitely go with something newer/better than the 6.5L I say go for it.

The newer Duramax will have its fitment issues from what I have heard.

Converting your c10 would be pretty expensive too. The time it would take to recoup the expenses would surprise you, even making your own fuel. BTW, the kits cost over $1000. Easier to find a diesel truck and go from there.

so would a 5.3 or ls1 be alot earier?

yes there are few on here with those.
