Has anybody ever used the automotive refrigerant that Enviro-Safe sells(ES12a)? If so, have you compared it's results to R134? I am using ES12a in my car and am having less than satisfactory results with it. Wondering if anyone else has tried it or if I should try using R134 instead.

I have only used R134 and was happy with it.

134a, there's a reason the manufacturers use it... best thing other than r12 given the parameters, cost, safety, effectivenes. From what I read, it's a hyrocarbon like propane and that does not seem too safe to me. Same thing with freeze12 and alcohol based systems. Having a highly presurized flamable substance cycling around with potential venting right in your face should the evaporator spring a leak does not sound good.

Just retrofit the system to R134A. Alternative refrigerants cause nothing but problems for everyone. If I were to reclaim your refrigerant it would contaminate my entire machine, the filter and my storage container along with all of the refrigerant in it. The problem is it's all for nothing. The performance isn't any better it isn't any more cost effective.
