I seem to be having some kind of electrical problem with my truck. (87 silverado half ton TBI 2wd 700R4) I will just be driving down the road and it will die, as though i shut off the switch. I can pull over to the side of the road and the engine will turn over, but i can't get it to start up. Then, if i wait anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes, (and it has taken up to 10 minutes) the truck will just decide to let me start it up, out of the blue. I should also say that the starter and the power windows and locks still work when the truck pulls this little stunt but the headlights and interior lights seem to go out and not function. Then i will try to start it, and if a little time has passed and the truck feels like it, everything will start working again and it will start right up as if nothing was ever wrong and run fine. This seems to be happening more and more frequently. Any idea what this could be? Right now i can't even risk driving the truck until i get this fixed. There is no telling when and where it will leave me stranded. Next time may be the last time it decides it wants to restart and i will end up having to tow it home.

First place I'd check is the ignition module. If that checks out ok, you may have a fuel pump on the way out.

Check your fusible links and connections. Tug on the fusible links, if they feel soft or seperate you've found your source. From there you'd need to identify what caused them to fail but just check them quickly and see if that's the case.

Dang, i forgot what a fusible link was.

The fusible links are wires with a fat-type plastic piece which is a fuse. There is one near the starter, one on the firewall....

That's what I get for trying to read comprehensively before bedtime. Didn't see the part about you losing lighting.

Nevemind, it was just some loose power wire under the dash. It explains why the headlights would go out too.

Some loose power wire? That doesn't sound too good.
