Title: Sealer, gasket for trans tunnel
Post by: Donut on October 14, 2008, 05:22:23 pm
I'm starting to put my truck back together and was wondering... What is used for a gasket on the tranny hump in a 4x4? (the bolt on pan)

When I pulled the old one off it had various colors of silicone, and a blob of what looked like roofing tar.

Butyl tape would probably work the best.

Butyl tape works good. Also the tape they make to run the length of a metal roofing where the sheets over lap each other works real good. It is kinda like butyl but a little bit more like foam two sided tape. I have used both and they both work good.

Blazin,

When butyl tape was mentioned that's the first thing I thought of.  Next trip to Home Depot.
