Title: Can I remove the UCA safely?
Post by: team39763 on October 17, 2008, 03:09:56 pm
I need to do some work on the upper control arm/bushings.  Is it possible for me to disconnect it from the frame while it's still connected to the spindle?  Will the spring pop out on me or anything?  What's the easiest way to remove the bushings and reinstall new ones?  Thanks.

Just support the lower control arm with a floor jack. Best method is a press or ball joint pres

Use a torch to burn out the old ones and a press to install the new ones.

I tried to remove mine when I was rebuilding the front end.  I tried all the methods mentioned here and over at 73-87.com garage.  I couldn't get them to budge.  So....I took the control arms to the machine shop and had them remove and install my bushings.  By the way, they burned them out also.  I wouldn't try that method on control arms that are still attached to the truck.
