anybody know how heavy a cab is or any good ideas on swaping one from a 79 to c15 78 k10 ive got an engine hoist and was trying to figure out a good way to get these switched. im kinda out of ideas any help would be appreciated

I used 4 men and a boy. It is pretty heavy 350lbs+
Can you get three other people to help? It's easy with four people.

thanks for the pics i think that should work pretty good. did you bold the 4x4 to the hoist or is it just sitting there?

I did something real similar except I instead picked from the bottom. With a bare cab, I used a 2X4, drilled holes at the locations of the rear cab mounts big enough to put a 3/8" eye bolt through with a toggle bolt on the end. Slip the 2X4 into the cab, drop the toggles with eyebolts through the wood and out the bottom. I used a small chain to connect the eye bolts with little slack. This chain drops onto the hook of your engine hoist. I then use 2 small 1" ratchet straps (1 to each of the front seat mount bolts) and run them to the lifting hook as well. Doing this lets me lift from the bottom, adjust for level with the ratchet straps, and gives far more height because the boom starts out so low. People always say it sounds cheap, especially the straps (I don't use crap straps) but keep this in mind.....assuming the bare cab weighs even 800 pounds, the front 2 straps are supporting about 500 pounds of the weight or 250 each. Anybody in the towing or rigging business will tell you that a good strap is just as strong as comparable size chain and the 250 pounds for this cab per strap is nothing. When I set the cab on the frame, I rest the rear on 2 small blocks just to get in and get the toggle bolts out then with 1 hand I can lift the cab to remove the block and set the cab right on the mount. This whole process is easy for a 1 person operation. Forgot to mention that I push the hoist in from the driver side. I do basically the exact same thing for the bed, placing the hoist at the rear and rolling the bed right onto the frame from the rear. I will try to remember to get pictures next time I do this (hopefully about 1 month) if anybody is interested.

thanks for the help everyone. i pulled it last night used a 2x3 rectangle tubing i had laying around. Did it just like 80sstepsideguy illistrated it worked perferect. just put it across the cab and put the engine hoist underneath the center then i tack welded the tube to the hoist in the center and it went great had it off in about 15 mins. i was gonna take some pictures but my darn camera was dead!! Or if you had some spare lumber and about 4hrs to burn, you could have done it like me...

Beds i wont lift off by myself, they sell this sling that has 2 bars and that attaches to your engine hoist and you jack it up and it lifts off.As far as cabs mine was pretty gutted so it was light and i moved sllloowwwwllllyyyyy and it was easy to doas long asyou take your time your good.I was told by a guy i bought the cab from he never heard of anyone doing what i did but hey it worked and no damages done to the cab or myself.

it is either a 78 or a 79 for $400 i dont know the condition but i am going to find out

Ok, tell me how to lift a crew cab with doors on it and all but the front seat in it.

If i was you i would mark the door hinges and take them off because you would have more work room and it be lighter but i guess you could get some of your buddys to help you just like a single cab or you could use a cherry picker with the doors off
