Title: Bad Wiper Motor?
Post by: Scootin 81 C20 on October 30, 2008, 03:02:37 pm
OK, here we go. I'm having a couple of problems with my wipers on my truck, an '81 Scottsdale, and I'm wondering if they are motor related. Problem #1: My wipers wipe about every 20-30 minutes when I'm driving or sitting there listening to the radio without messing with the wiper switch. Problem #2: My windshield washer doesn't work. I have the reservoir filled up, but it doesn't work. And, a little side question. What is turning the wiper knob supposed to do. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Benjamin.

turning  the wiper knob is the time delay adjustment...turn to right, faster cycle, turn to left, longer time b/w wiper activation.

As far as it runs every 30 mins or so, take a look under your dash on the firewall. There is a plastic cover for your washer motor.  If something in there is loose, a simple bump will activate your wiper motor.

AS far as your washer pump not working, do you hear the pump activated?  Check your lines etc..

Yeah, that little knob is REALLY sensitive.  You want to make sure it's turned off.  That alone might solve 1/2 of your problem.

Thanks for the replys. I looked for the little panel under the dash and couldn't find anything. I tried turnning the knob, that didn't help. BTW, it was raining this morning and I found out that the first position to the right of off doesn't work. Anymore suggestions, or should I redo the wiper system?

Thanks
Benjamin.

Sorry to dredge this up, but I'm experiencing the same problem and wondered if this had been resolved.

First thing I would try is the wiper switch, you may get lucky and that might solve all of your problems.
