Title: Heater problem

Hey guys. Im trying to figger out why I dont have heat. I replaced my T-Stat. Fan motor works and all. Blows hard. Just no heat. What should be the next thing I should check/replace??

Are the heater hoses both hot?

Also under the passenger side dash by the kick pannel, there is a silver vac. thing with a red spring on it going to a door that opens if I push on it but I plaed with all the controlls and nonthing will open the door. what is that thing?? The vac. lines are hooked up but I cant fill vac. at that line. What is this thing??
