My dad has a 2000 Dodge Dakota with the V-6 auto. It has just under 40K and runs great. Recently he had a check engine light come on and P0442 was the code. I have a code reader and reset the code. He went a couple of weeks and it came back. ECC small leak??? Vile, anyone please help if you can...

First thing to check is the gas cap. Make sure it's a good seal if not replace it. Your DTC is set b/c a leak between .040" and .080" is detected. Next check all of the evap hoses and lines for cracks. If everything else checks ok and the DTC comes back you probably have a bad LDP (leak detection pump). I've had to replace several of them.

2 weeks after I cleared the code he had the truck emission tested and gas cap checked fine. I will check over the evap hoses with a fine tooth comb. I doubt I will find anything but you never know. His truck is like brand new inside and out and under the hood as well. Do you have a location of the LDP for this truck?

you'll probably have to get the evap system smoked unless the crack is very obvious
