Title: what do I need
Post by: yotaonrocks on November 12, 2008, 08:50:36 pm: I just ordered the kits from the site to replace my floors and rockers in my truck. I have some other stuff to fix before I paint the truck after I do this so what should I put on the bare metal to keep from rusting before paint. A spray can primer or something else?

Post by: Blazin on November 12, 2008, 09:34:53 pm: I use a self etching rust inhibitive primer, then a high build urethane primer. You can get them both in a spray bomb. The self etching primer bites into the steel. The high build fills in the sand scratches etc. The high build primer in a spray bomb has a glass ball inside with the activator in it. When you shake it the glass breaks, Then the primer drys / hardens with a chemical reaction not by evaporation of reducers. The only problem with this is you have to use it all or its no good in the can later. I have also recently used a roll on high build urethane primer by Transtarr. It works really good. Rust converter only works on rusty metal, I wouldn't put rust coverter on clean metal. It won't help anything.

Post by: yotaonrocks on November 13, 2008, 06:52:56 pm: also I was planning taking to friends shop and paying his uncle to paint it but have been considering doing it myself. could I paint my truck in a 2 car garage without having the epa kicking my butt. I live in a neighborhood so there are many houses around me.

Post by: yotaonrocks on November 14, 2008, 08:04:14 pm: yeah I have watched my friends uncle alot and I am sure I wont do a great job but I figured it would be a good experience and alot cheaper than paying him. Im not looking for show quality just a decent paint job. Plus I get 40% off of paint I already have compressor and my friends uncle said I could use his gun so I shouldn't have to much in it if I screwed it up.
