Title: Our new toy...86 k5
Post by: camdenoilchange on November 17, 2008, 05:21:16 pm
I've been wanting to pick up another 4wd for awhile now and finally got one thanks to my fiancee. I was browsing craigslist and came across an 86 k5 with a 4" lift and 36" tsl's. She happened to see me looking at it and made the suggestion that it would be a nice christmas present for us. Shocked as I was, we split the cost of it and for the total of $700 we have a mudding truck to enjoy together. Just wanted to share, life is good.

yep. one of the automatic locking hubs is junk but i picked up a set of manual locking hubs that i'll put in friday. it's got stock gears in it but i get my christmas bonus in the begining of december so i'll be ordering 4.56 gears and overhaul kits to do the axles.

From what I can see of the picture -- you got that thing for free!  :o

Mine is an 83 and the automatic hubs are still workin' -- I can hardly believe it!  I've never had any luck with auto hubs...

I see wires or something sticking from the grill -- is it a diesel?

$700 is well worth the fun-factor,  Good find!  I dang near bought an '85 that looked real close to that one.  I went to get the money and come back tomorrow and when I got there the guy had sunk after I went home, up to the roof in a mud hole and ripped most of the rear quarter off. >:(

it's gas and one hub works. i'm putting new locking hubs on this weekend. the wires are from lights previously installed i guess. i'll be removing them. 4.56 gears are coming as my christmas present to me.
