Question on interchangeability on rotors...
« on: May 20, 2009, 05:51:55 pm »
Ok so for my 85 C30 resto project I finally acquired all the parts to rebuild the whole front end. But while my truck sits at the shop the front end on that one is in even worse shape then the one from the 78 parts truck. so i took the front end out of the 78 and I dismantled everything yesterday got it all cleaned and when my dad came home and looked at the rotors/ hubs that i had in the parts washer he told me they were old style where the rotor is mounted to the hub and not removeable. So nonetheless I got everything sandblasted down pained and everything is going back together tonight but I'm leaving the spindles out because I dont know if the 78 spindles with the non removeable hub rotors will interchange with my 85 removeable hub rotors...did i explain that correctly? The rotors on the 78 are just a little rusty and we can cut them here because id hate to see them go to waste they were recently done the bearings and everythign are band new in them... id hate to just ditch them for the ones out of my 85 because those are bad and id need new ones if i went with those.

I guess what I want to know is if i cut the 78 ones then when they finally wear out can i just upgrade to the newer style hubs and rotors from the 85 without changing the spindles?

Last question i searched and searched and searched some more on the 78 hubs to find a minimum and maximum thickness so we can cut them and I cant find them and we cant find them in any of our books does anyone happen to know offhand what the minimum cut thickness would be? sorry if i made this so confusing...

the 78 and 85 used the same brake rotors if they both are duels, or if the 78 had jb8 style brakes /w single rear wheels. but if the 78 had jb7 /w single rear wheels then no they wont work. also the jb7 was only a rotor. while the jb8 was  hub/rotor Assembly
