11 Year old Driving
« on: March 06, 2010, 04:27:49 pm »
My little girl got to drive for the first time today.  So I made a video of her driving around the yard in the truck.  Destiny's only 11!  She did real good.  She got a lot of practice on the golf cart the last few years so that's helped a lot.

i was 8 driving a 72 furd p/u.  I'd drive around our 8 acres picking up branches and taking to them burn pile, and drive up to the garden and pick up the bushel baskets of freshly picked butterbeans, snaps, and potatoes. It was a chore so it wasn't too much fun.  I'd also drive the old pickup around the hunt land when i was 9 or 10.  So, by the time i turned 15 w/ a learner's, no big deal.

I watched those videos waiting for some donuts!!!  Never saw any donuts  >:(

I had bought a 66 passenger school bus from a School auction. Fixed a couple things on it, then drove it out to my dads 75 east of here. Got off of the Internstate and onto the state hwy with it, then let my 10 yo son drive it from the interstate to dads house. It had a 366 BBC and and Allison trans, so all he had to do was steer it, and hit the gas. Not responsive at all of course, and I was standing right next to him since there was plenty of room for me to be right at his side. This little kid was cruising 65mph steering this biggo bus, like he had been driving for years. Cracked me up. He sure thought he was pretty big then. Then school starts after that summer. The very first day of school, about 3 other kids come home from school with him, and those 3 kids were telling me that my son was lying at school today when the teacher asked all the kids to tell of an event they did this past summer, that they'd never forget. That was my sons event. Forget about all the other cool stuff we did that summer, but he told of that story and the kids didn't beleive him, so I had to show them pics of the bus sitting in the driveway in front of our house then they thought he was pretty cool and went back to school and told all the other kids it was true, that his dad had pics of the bus and said it was true. Funny stuff, but obviously my son liked it.

I forgot to mention that bus was money project. I got it for $700, put about $30 and a couple hours labor in it, and sold it on ebay a week later for $1200. My son and I had all kinds of fun talking about that thing. I edited some pics too. I'll dig em out soon. We called the bus, "Git'R Done Express" So I chaged the wording on the side of the bus in the photo editing software. It was a cool quick profitable project.

I was 11 and it was a F800 dump truck. Same guy taught me how to plow the next winter. By the time I was 13 I was driving my mother everywhere!

That awesome Blazin. I remeber being about 8 and my dad would let me shift the gears on his old 4 speed vehicle from the passneger seat, and I watched how he used the clutch to take off. By 9 I was moving the vehicle off the street into the driveway, so mom wouldn't get a ticket when the streetsweeper came by since she always forgot to move it the night before, but she always slept in. After the streetsweeper came, I pulled it back out of the driveway, and put it back on the street. Mom never figured it out. But then one day said, you know I haven't move the car in months, and I have not gotten any tickets. My lil bro's snitched me off when I was not around, so the next time the street sweeper was coming I ran outside to move the car, mom met me in the driveway with a belt and blistered my ass. Kinda rotten since I saved her hundreds of dollars in fines.
