Truck running fast?
« on: April 05, 2011, 07:14:29 pm »
I have a 1980 chevy k10 4x4, truck has a 350 with quadjet carb and hydromatic trans from what I see the truck is pretty much stock air hooked up no undone vaccum leaks or wire harness things that would say it's not orig. To the point I was driving it I knew I was low on gas, right across from the gas station I stall out out of gas. I had a mini gas tank had a little gas in from last year not enough to get home. So I put gas in it, would not start so I pulled the throttle and seen the cable not giving any gas to the carb. So I put lil in the carb it started right up when I put it into drive it shifted out hard and took off fast. I could tell it was running and it's idle was fast I was close to home. I parked it shut it off but still ran than spun a bit and shut off.. I started back up after it sat the idle is very high and if you put into gear it trys to take off. It's a automatic trans.. I've had the old engines rattle and shake when you turn them off. Keep running when I turned it off, to idle and run fast. I figured I park it ask you guys I've never seen this. I was thinking bad gas but it be stalling not running fast. Only thing I did was pull the throttle back to pump gas into the carb just as if I was hitting the pedal. Any ideas thanks

maybe something bound or got caught up with your throttle cable or spring. I would start by checking to see if your throttle is returning all of the way to the idle screw in the carb. Then check to see if your fast idle cam is releasing. just a thought as these are real easy to check.
