reverse light problem
«

I think I already know the answer but thought I would throw this out there. Just hooking up my tail lights etc after rebuild and paint job. Everything works fine but my reverse lights on come on if i hold my shifter up a little. if i let it go the shifter handle drops a little and the lights go out. Is this just a matter of crawling under the truck and tightening up the linkage or adjusting the linkage whatever the case my be, or is there something else it could be.

that doesn't sound good. those columns scare the heck out of me. never had one apart nor do i want to. I can get the lights to work no problem like i say i just have to hold up on the handle. My entire handle is a little sloppy but i just always thought it need adjustment...... I hope this is a cheap fix. I have spent way to much lately.

Sounds like it just needs a little adjustment. Read this

yes it is doing what they said in the article, mine just wont come on until I move the handle. I understand that it needs adjustment but I am not grasping what they are saying on how to do it. Is there some pictures on how to do this or any better details. Thanks again.

On the top of the column, right at the base before it goes through the firewall is the switch. There should be a purple and a yellow wire plugin on it. If you reach up on the top of it there is a portion that will slide back and forth a little bit, and that adjusts when the electrical contactors make the reverse lights turn on when you move the handle. When you moved the shift handle there is a piece inside that switch that moves back and forth in an arc. You can change it's home position by moving the piece on the top outside of the switch. Here's an example of the switch, although mine was all white plastic.

Try moving this piece to the left or right

sounds easy, i will give it a try tomorrow night and see what happens. so this is just on top off the column so i don't have to remove anything. I can just reach this with my hand? is this correct

Thought that was it just didn't want to head you in the wrong direction. Glad someone knew lol if you can't adjust it it a fairly cheap part about 10 for the neutral safety switch
