76 chevy stepside 4x4 suspension lift questions
« on: September 24, 2011, 07:26:13 pm »
i have a 1976 chevrolet k10 stepside 4x4 and i'm about to lift it.  i would like to fit 33x12.5r15 tires on it, so i'm thinking about a 2 1/2 inch suspension lift.  being that it's a 1976,should i change out the rear leaf springs or just add new bushings all around and get a suspension kit front and back.  what does anyone recommend in terms of the best overall on-road/off-road performance and feel for this truck?  is there one brand better than another? i am looking at a rough country suspension lift, or a pro comp? superlift? skyjacker?  any ideas on which brand is better or which one has most comfortable on/off road feel?  thank you for the help

I've heard that the cheap kits ride worse like the skyjacker and rough country, but I've never heard bad things about procomp lifts, if my hearsay is worth anything.

Once you lift a truck, you can not have the best of both worlds, sky jacker is rougher a ride than say pro-comp, but pro-comp is not as good off road.  Each system has there good and bad points, what you need to decide is, are you going to off road all or most of the time, or is it going to be once in awhile fire road, dirt road kind of truck.
Really think first about what you want, then there is all kinds of info on how each system rides, or flexes and go from there, sorry if this is not what you were actually looking for, but in this case you can not have your cake and eat it too, as my dear old Mom used to say.

i think some on here have said they can fit 33s under a stock setup. but if you’re only going with 2.5 lift i would only go with blocks in the rear and new springs up front i can see forking over that much money for only 2" lift. that being said i have rough country and its like driving a tractor when i go mudding i usually hit the roof a couple times its very hard. I would think its kind of like trading off things granted I have 6” so yes its rough off road but the flex isnt as bad as it would be on the road taking a corner  with lets say pro comp. but off road pro comp would be better and not hit so hard
