The New Little Beast

Hey Everybody! I know I haven't been on here in a long time but, I got a good reason for it. As some of you may know, my Cheyenne has been a good truck but I've had my headaches when it comes to the engine. Well I spent the past three months or so and did a little something about that problem.

So here's what I had before. A worn out, stock, cast iron 4bolt block and heads. Older Edelbrock intake and carb. Pretty old and ugly, not a lot of power.

Now, my little frankenstein, the beast that lurks beneath the hood. A GM Performance 4 bolt 350, bored 30 over, now she's a 355.  ;) A cast steel GM crank, new pistons and rods from Speed Pro. On to the heads, Dart Specialty High Performance aluminum straight plugs, got the 2.020 intake valves, the 1.60 exhaust, dual valve springs. And just cackling between the two is a hydraulic long duration Xtreme Energy cam and lifter set from Comp. Measuring 218/224 @ .050 duration and .462/.469 lift. Going upwards we have chromoly one-piece push rods and steel roller tip rockers. Assisting getting all that fuel and air in is an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Holley 4160 electric choke, 600 cfm carburetor. To get all that power out we have a set of long tube Flowtech headers, ceramic coated satin black and soon to come is true duel exhaust with Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers. All this stuff aint so great unless we got a little spark, so for that I enlisted a GM Performance HEI distributor, MSD Super Conductor wires and Accel header plugs. To tie all this together and put a cherry on top, I installed a serpentine bracket from a 95 Chevy 1500 5.7, allowing me to retain my factory power steering and A/C. Along with the accompanying alternator, tensioner, pulleys, and stacked right behind the crank pulley is a Performance Products harmonic damper.

All of these goodies are well and nice but if the engine bay doesn't compliment the engine then whats the point of showing off! So I painted the entire bay, satin black engine enamel, bed linered the frame and suspension, new motor and trans mounts, freshly cored 3 core steel radiator and dual electric cooling fans from Maradyne Fans. (Which work amazing I will say)  :) Keeping it all COOL is a job I gave to Royal Purple and the fully synthetic engine oil which has been great since I started using it.

All and all I would say that she turned into a very speedy and fun street machine with enough bite to back up that bark!  ;D When I finally got everything perfectly tuned and broken in, I've calculated between 340-360 HP at about 5300 RPM. I also rebuilt half of the engine wire harness, got a new battery, flywheel and painted some various parts and made nice pretty wire looms.

Good Quality show pics are soon to come!

Looks like a very clean install.

Keep the photos coming.

Do you have a breakdown or chart of the part numbers used on your engine?  I'm very interested, as I'm sure others will be...
1973 GMC K2500, Super Custom, Camper Special, 350, TH350, NP203, 4.10's
1974 Chevrolet K10, Custom Deluxe, 350, SM465, NP203, 3.73's

Thanks! Yea I got a list of everything I used, I can make a list soon and put it up. Also that pic is of the old nasty motor, the new one will have much nicer pics for comparison. Just to show just how much of a change it is.
