Kiwi C10 (85 LWB RHD)
« on: July 07, 2014, 04:49:12 am »
Finally got around to getting some pictures of the old girl and making some progress on getting her back on the road.
Added a few pics from the day she turned up, taking the ugly huge door mirrors off, new rims and start of the sub box for behind the seat.

Since getting the truck we have rewired all the lights (none worked) replaced some broken glass, rebuilt the brakes and started getting rid of some of the rust.

Plans are to lower it some more, remove the rear bumper and get it sorted to carry our moto x bikes for the winter.

Cant get enough time to work on the truck now unfortunately, the draw backs of owning a house that also needs attention and working constantly.

Hopefully get some more updates soon, once the stereo is in.

Cheers for looking.

Andrew

Nice start, I think we can all understand the "other" things in our lives that need to be done also, otherwise we would all have 3 or 4 of these trucks built.

it would have been converted to rhd  and shipped down, there was a company in british columbia that did them, before my dad moved to canada from new zealand, his friend had a converted 66chevelle sent over

Hey, to date i have made practically zero progress on this truck. Ive been posted overseas for work and havent been home in 6 months.

I have however got some new front rotors and pads to go in, new rear shoes, had the truck chassis blasted (looked as though it may have suffered an engine fire at some stage as everything firewall forward (excuse the pun) was rusted and through for the first compliance check. Which it failed.

Shes been in the panel shop for a few weeks now getting rust repairs to the fire wall, inner guards, two new guards and a bonnet thrown on and repairs to the door sills oth sides.

Still a lot of work to do before she can go back through comliance tho but hopefully when im back in the country ill have some sapre cash and time to make it happen.

Next on the list of jobs i can do from here are ordering material to recover the bench set, order carpet, pick a colour for the outside and sort the tray with tie downs for the dirt bike.

The list just keeps growing.

To answer the above question, yip there were alot of cars and trucks modified over seas and bought in but there were also many assembled here as r/h drive. Mine was assembled in Petone in Wellington in New Zealand and is a New Zealand new Chev C10.

Thats my update for now. Like i said, bring on march and i can finaly do some driving and some work on the old girl.

Cheers

Quick update. Im still posted overseas so havent been able to make much progress personally. But my wife how ever has fitted the new front rotors and pads, fitted the rear shoes and the new park brake cable.
The rust in the foot well, door sills, bonnet and guards has all been removed and replaced with actual metal.

Was hoping to crack intot he lowering when i get home but the complany that sent me the kit has left a part out and shipping is killing me to get it to NZ so will have to wait till i get home and make a replacement for the flip kit.

Big car show here in NZ called beach hop coming up so hoping to have her on the road for then, so that gives me amonth once i return to get it done. Not liking my chances but worth a shot!

Also need to rebuild the front forks on my RM250 and get some riding in when i get home so will have to make some sort of list.

Few road bumps on the truck as well with needing certification for the rims as I need to run spacers to clear the lower ball joint?!?! So will be lowering it and certing that at the same time.

Wish me luck!!

Very nice truck and cool build... So is your main focus the interior and suspension? Or do you have plans for the motor also? What's under the hood by the way? Great story along with the truck.... Crazy to see the steering wheel on the right side of the truck.... Seems like that would be a rare find.... There or here..... By the way that is a good woman... Not many would do something like that.... That was cool to read. Her helping you on the truck... I know what you mean when you say the list just keeps growing .... I hear ya on that.... So when do you think the truck will be done ?

Im hoping to be back in country end of feb and have it finished by the end of march, but that all rely on the rust repairs getting done.
the main focus is to just get her on the road legally, but if i need to get a certification for the wheels i may aswell get it done for the suspenson at the same time and save on doubling up costs. ( the new zealand system is awesome at getting the most out of a wallet).

Its only running a 305 at the monet, in the future id like to throw a crte 350 in but that can wait. The 305 runs sweet and all i really will be using he truck for is carting the dogs around and the moto x bikes. Any probably parked up with a few beers in the tray (best use of a truck i think)

Ill try and get some more pics once i get home of the right hand drive stuff.

Sounds like a good plan, and a short time frame for getting it done. That's a great goal.  The 305 is a sweet little motor. A crate 350 would be cool that's for sure! Yeah  to post those pics of the right hand drive stuff when you can. Interested in that.

Well, What a few months it has been.
Have finally got the truck in to be complied (Made road legal again) but am fearing i will run into the same problems on the third set of wheels ive tried which is the inner wheel rim contacting the lower control arms.
Discovered that she already has drop spindles fitted and this is why the original rims hit, the chrome USA whells needed spacers machined to be legal (another $1000 all up) and the boyd coddington 16's are hitting aswell. Im almost out of ideas apart from going back to factory spindles if i can find them and worry about lowering it again later.
All the rust has been removed just waiting on the repair certifier to send the paperwork through so we can sign that puppy off.
Fingers cross another month and she will be driveable (legally)
