Revamped Extended Cab Discussion
« on: January 22, 2014, 10:17:44 pm »
Hey Everyone! I have recently discovered the world of 73-87 GM Extended Cabs! Now I have been just marveled at this and I love everything that I have found. So, I would like to start a discussion right here and compile a large section of info, pics, specifications and other stuff related to these trucks. I have researched a little on this website about them, it seems that info is scattered in multiple discussions. Here I think it would be great for everyone who knows anything about them to throw in there thoughts, ideas, crazy finds, etc. It would be great for anyone who is looking for info can come here and find out anything they need to know about extended square bodies.

Here it would be great to find all of the following info:

-years made & how many produced
-options available, i.e. rear bench seats, side face buckets, solid or fold out rear side windows, what types of trim & interior panels were used
-what companies did the conversions, city & states that they were done in, WHY where they built??
-how did they do it? how did they form the extra body and interior panels? how did they shorten the bed? are chassis modifications needed?
-tech info, drive line lengths, bed lengths, how big the extended part is, what style donor truck is used, short or long bed, 2 & 4 wheel drive versions, how much these conversions used to cost?
-what are these trucks worth now? where have these trucks been seen?
-did these conversions require other systems to be modified also? i.e. brake lines, fuel lines, electrical
-how does there overall size compare to standard & crew cabs, are they more versatile & useful, do there owners like them? LOVE them?
-what do people at car shows and events think about these rare creatures?

I think it would be great also if this discussion gets a lot of attention that it could be saved somewhere at the top of a curtain category, such as crew cabs, so that it doesn't get lost and buried over time and under other discussions.

So what do you guys think?! Shall we get this thing started?!  :D

Chop Top and Zeig is who needs to comment on this, they both own extended cabs.  I believe the extended cabs did not start until 83 ish.  That will be corrected I am sure.

#2: There is no such thing as impossible, it just takes longer.

http://conversiontrucks.net/  is Choptop's website.  I believe it is the most complete info that can be had with a lot of pictures to boot.
