Suggest a shock combo for my setup!
« on: March 22, 2014, 09:20:22 pm »
Hey all
I have a 1980 C10 Cheyenne. As is, it's dropped up front w cut coils and the shocks are pathetically crappy, rusted, etc. The back has a flip kit and drop shackle and equally crappy shocks. I bought McGaugheys 1" drop springs and plan to get either DJM or Belltech spindles so I understand I can get stock length front shocks, maybe something intended for a 0-3" drop? The back rides rough and I plan to notch it, but for now I want to throw some shackles in and raise it back up a little. I know the flip is usually a 6" drop so I need some serious drop shocks and have been looking at Belltech Nitro drop 2's. Could I use something like a kyb g-2's and have a semi-balanced ride or do you think I need to use gas-a-justs up front? Cant find a matching set for this type of setup so I am trying to piece it together well and would appreciate insight from anyone else with a similar drop. Thanks!

I would run some drop shocks up front with what you have and get shock extenders for the rear and run factory shocks in the back.

Thanks Capt, I did further reading since posting and your post helps too. I was thinking Belltech Street Performance shocks up front (recommended 0"-3" drop) with -1" mcGaughey springs. Out back, the shock extenders with some Monroe Magnums. I may also take out the lowering shackels for now and replace with some stock until I get my -3" spindles. I like the look and price of DJM. They seem solid. Hopefully until then the ride wont be too crazy front to back. Here it is now:
