Yet another seat question
« on: October 15, 2014, 10:07:26 am »
Looking to replace the vinyl bench in my '80 C10 with something a bit more stylish.  I'd like to do a split type bench with a fold down arm rest, storage, and cup holders.  I'd rather not have to do any (or much) fabrication as I'm getting lazy (or smarter) with age.

Does anyone have any experience with seats from Dick's Auto Parts?  The price seems pretty reasonable, which is frightening.  I've learned over the years, you usually get what you pay for.

I would be concerned with the ride height.  They are in my neck of the woods...

The PO of my truck bought a set from there. They were in the old cab that we didn't use. (he sold the seats before I bought the truck) I know he said he really liked them. I can ask him which set he had and any other questions you have.

I called them a week or so ago and was assured that with the correct mounts that the seats would fit.  They look a bit tall for a regular cab and I'm concerned that like a high back, they could hit the rear window.  Of course there is the height to ceiling question as well.  As I get closer to pull the trigger, I'll make sure to ask more questions.

I know that trucks from that era weren't quite as luxurious as they are now.  Are there any OEM bolt in options that might fit my requirements?

He said he didn't remember the model number but he really liked them. Said he paid around $500 and they came with all the mounting hardware. He said they bolted right in with out any issues or modifications. His only issue was that he felt they sat too low so he added some spacers. He's 6'0ft tall or so.

These were in a 79 K10 by the way.

I've done a few seat conversions and the only ones I would consider again is 90-91 Suburban bucket seats or bench, I've done both.  I put a bench out of a 91 Suburban in a 1985.  They really changed the density of the foam which I really liked the firmness.  Downside was it didn't tilt forward to access behind the seat.  Suburban buckets are going into both of my 85's.  Going to recover the one set in black vinyl for my extended cab while the other set is in perfect condition and the right color for my other truck.
