edelbrock high idle issue 86 k20
« on: November 27, 2014, 08:13:15 pm »
hey i have been having an issue that has been driving me nuts lately. i have an 86 k20 with a 1406 edelbrock i bought new 6 months ago or so on a stock intake with the adapter plate. th400 trans so no kickdown cable. when i start the truck the fast idle always seemed a little high so ibacked the bottom screw owm the arm back and didnt appear to change it but when i put it in gear and tap the throttle its stuck at about 12-1500 rs and when i come to a stop i have to put it in neutral and rev the piss out of it. to get the idle normal. take off and repeat. i also dont really have kickdown here lately. but in the last week i have replaced the throttle cable, spring and checked dor vac leaks. the choke works properly. i drive this truck 80 miles a day so its getting annoying any where i should look?

Sounds like the choke may not be adjusted correctly.

Are you sure you have the correct screw for the high idle adjustment?

I understand that the carb has a high-idle screw.  I'm wondering if you are adjusting the right one.

Check that nothing is causing your throttle linkage to hang up. I had a problem with that on my 1411.
